Unconscious Germination
by Alejandro Cornejo Translated from the original Spanish by Deives Collins
What is left for those who have run out of answers?
For those who feel no difference between the rose's stem, its silk, and its thorn.
Those full of sorrows, numbed by the absence of self-love.
I've landed a direct hit against the wind,
From the mountain that anoints the garden with seed,
That which decides to be born, in barren soil,
Advances, from small steps to its phototropism,
Takes root against all odds, against the broken earth.
Be the light that floods your most isolated places.
Allow the complacent, desolate gaze
of that which clouds your mind to germinate.
Separate yourself, like the flower's pollen,
From your unsustainable ways
And from the ties of your unrest.
Be free from all false ambition.

“Why the unicycle?”
He leans on the wooden table. His chin looks like it’s melting into his palm through gravitational pull. It’s a far cry from the perky man who’d sat down twenty minutes earlier.
“You, James, are dead. And, you are in a bar that you subconsciously dreamed up as your ideal place for comfort while crossing over. We are in a dead-lock about where you belong: literally deciding the fate of your soul for all eternity—and your biggest issue is my mode of transportation?”
“Hey, give me a sec—the fries are phenomenal here. Jenny!”
Translation - Spanish
¡Jenny!»
Spanish to English: "Night & Day" de Jay_enhypen765 (115 palabras) General field: Art/Literary Detailed field: Poetry & Literature
Y nuestros momentos no podrán borrar
Porque somos felices aún en cuarentena.

Night & Day
by Jay_enhypen765 Translated from the original Spanish by Deives Collins
Night is peaceful and cold
But it's also comforting.
Sure, it's not as warm and bright as day
But it serves an important purpose.
Sleeping under the blue sky is lovely,
And sleeping under the stars is something else.
Day and night both complement each other,
So I raise a toast to them
For making me feel something I can't explain.
We're always together, and this we know
We're like night and day
And there's no need for us to show it
Because for you, I'd go all the way to Saturn
Together, we should celebrate
Because everything has been worth it
And our moments can never be erased
Because we're happy even in quarantine.

Bio
Hello! My name is Deives Collins. I am a budding literary and humanitarian translator from Latin American Spanish (specializing in Argentine Spanish) to American English.
Today: My work as a translator exists alongside my responsibilities as the primary homemaker for my family. As such, my ultimate goal is to establish long-term relationships with a handful of end clients, ideally in writing/publishing, who have somewhat consistent, small- to medium-sized workloads. My talents shine the most when the source text communicates nuanced ideas that require every word to be carefully considered in context by human eyes.
How I got here: I am a product of the digital age in the sense that I was able to complete my education in Spanish independently via a plethora of online resources, including elements of digital immersion via relationships formed on language exchange apps. Prior to becoming a translator, I worked for four years as an English language audio transcriber. As such, learning the best practices of the translation industry was not a difficult adjustment. If you have doubts about the merits of self-education, I encourage you to review my translation samples and work history, available above as well as on my website.
On the horizon: I am currently studying the Uyghur language (Uyghurche) at the Ana Care & Education Uyghur language school in Fairfax, VA, USA. It is my ultimate goal to translate in the Uyghur to English language pair and work with nonprofits dedicated to Uyghur human rights.
If your source text deals with humanitarian issues, ask me about pro bono translation.
