I come from a family that has had Swedish connections since I was 11 years old. I started learning Swedish at night school when I was 12 and carried on until I was 18, taking up Scandinavian Studies at the University of Hull when I left school. After graduation I worked in the City of London for 5 years using my Scandinavian languages to help me understand stock market activity in the Nordics and to use that information to update the Exshare database for commercial clients, mostly consisting of stockbroking firms and merchant banks, at Extel Financial Ltd.Eventually, I retrained as a French teacher at the University of York and then moved into Special Education, working with children in a mainstream setting but with a huge range of different needs. I completed my M.Ed. through the Open University in 2017.I have loved every minute of my career in education but now I want to return to my first love, which is languages. I have recently started taking freelance work with the language pair of English-Swedish but can also translate into English from Swedish/Danish/Norwegian. I retired from teaching in 2024 and I am now fully available to take on freelance translation work as required. |
