Source text - French Magaajyia Silberfeld est une comédienne et réalisatrice franco-nigérienne. Formée au Conservatoire Municipal de Paris et à l'emblématique Lee Strasberg Institute de Los Angeles, elle multiplie depuis les collaborations audacieuses entre Paris et Los Angeles.
Constamment stimulée et admirative d'artistes, tels que les danseurs étoile Sylvie Guillem et Akram Khan, ou les compositions de Joseph Bologne de Saint-George, elle décide en 2008 d'assouvir une envie irrépressible de longue date, en lançant sa propre marque de joaillerie.
Le projet mûrit et grandit sous sa direction, les premières ébauches apparaissent, elle pense et dessine ses modèles avec comme unique fondement l'authenticité et la richesse de ses origines sahéliennes auxquelles la marque empreinte son nom : Soundjata Keïta, ancêtre empereur Mandingue dont le royaume couvrait le Sahel et l'Ouest de l'Afrique au XIIIe siècle.
Passionnée par toutes les expressions artistiques qu'elle cultive dès son enfance, elle s'inspire des figures maternelles qui l'ont entourées et lui ont transmises cette affection pour les beaux objets. Notamment marquée par le souvenir des bracelets en rubis et or de son arrière grand-mère, la princesse peuhle Maya Fulan’g, chapardés discrètement avant de se rendre à son cours de danse classique. Et l'authentique portrait de sa mère, Rahmatou Keïta par Artis Lane, laissant apparaître posé sur ses fines et interminables mains, une double bague en ivoire.
L'histoire de Keïta prend forme et démarre réellement en 2017. Les premières ébauches sur papier laissent place à des modèles en 3D, ses inspirations se précisent, la généalogie familiale prend une place majeure et le Cauris devient un élément central de ses créations, marquant définitivement l'écriture et l'esthétisme de ses futures collections. Le choix porté sur ce coquillage est un symbole de sa descendance impériale. Doté d’une force divinatoire et protectrice, cet objet dont l'aspect s'apparente à la porcelaine fut la première et la principale monnaie d'échange sur le continent africain et dans le monde.
Entre le Niger, la Pologne et l'Egypte, la créatrice imagine Keïta comme l'harmonie parfaite entre ses origines et les différentes cultures qui forgent son identité.
La première collection Keïta “Rahmatou” s'ouvre sur 5 modèles uniques en vermeil (argent plaqué or) ou en argent véritable qui, associés au blanc nacré du coquillage, leur confèrent une allure fine, intemporelle et élégante. Le montage est réalisé à Athènes et les finitions dans son atelier à Paris.
Chaque pièce raconte une histoire et nous renvoie au faste, à la poésie et à la noblesse de l'Afrique.
Keïta est un voyage qui part du cratère de NGorongoro, traverse le Nil et capte les reflets d’argent du fleuve Niger.
Translation - English Magaaiyia Silberfeld is a Franco-Nigerian actress and producer. Trained at the Municipal Conservatory of Paris and the prestigious LS Institute of LA, she has since had several bold collaborations between Paris and Los Angeles.
Following up her continuous admiration and inspiration from artists such as the soloist principal dancers Sylvie Guillem and Akram Khan, as well as Joseph Bologne of Saint-George’s compositions, Magaaiyia decided in 2008 to fulfil her long lasting irrepressible desire to start her own jewellery brand.
Under her direction, the project grows and matures, the first sketches come to life. The foundation of her drawings and thinking is based on the authenticity and richness of her Sahélien origin from which the brand name also derives : ‘Soundjata Keita’. He was an ancestral Mandingue emperor during the 13th century whose kingdom covered Sahel and West Africa.
She has a passion for all the artistic expressions cultivated during her childhood, and so she finds inspiration in those maternal figures that surrounded her and who passed onto her on this affection, fondness for the beautiful object. Particular memories have marked her; her grant grand-mother, Princess of Peulhe Maya Fulan’g and her golden and red bracelet which she use to discreetly pilfer before heading to her classical dance class. Also the authentic portrait of her mother, Rathmatou Keita, created by Artist Lane, gently reveals on her mother’s fines infinite hands, a double ivory ring.
Keita’s story takes shape and really kicks off in 2017. Her initial sketches done on paper are slowly replaced by 3D models, her inspirations become acute, her family genealogy becomes a primal role, and the Cauris becomes a key element of her creations that eventually marks her signature and aesthetic touch for all her future collections. The choice of this shell is a symbol of her imperial lineage. Endowed with a divine and protective force, this object, closely looking to porcelain, was the first and primal monetary exchange of the African continent as well as the rest of the world.
Between Nigeria, Poland and Egypt, the creator imagines Keita as the perfect harmony between her origins and the different cultures that forge her identity.
The first Keita collection entitled ‘Rahmatou’ is displayed in 5 unique models made of silver-gilt or real silver, combined with the pearly white element of the shell, it gives them a fine, timeless and elegant appearance. The setting is made in Athens and the finishing touches in her studio in Paris. .
Each piece tells a story and brings us back to the poesy, greatness and dignity of Africa.
Keita is a journey that starts from the core of Ngorongoro, crossing the Nile whilst capturing the silver reflections of the Niger river.
