I am a Spanish native from Madrid working as a translator since 1999. My strongest pair languages are EN > ES, FR > ES and PT < > ES. I translate too into Portuguese and I can perfectly translate Italian, Catalan and Galician.
I released at the end of 2024 the expanded new edition of Redemisere with more unpublished poems of those years and others after the 1997 edition by the UCM. It was first published in 1997 in the Blas de Otero Collection of Poetry of the Faculty of Philology by the Complutense University of Madrid and reached 31 pages. The original book was awarded with the Blas de Otero Poetry Prize of the Faculty of Philology of the UCM or, as it is called now, Complutense Literature Award of Poetry.
This new 2024 edition exceeds 200 pages and includes rhythmic translations of poems and versions for singing in Spanish of many songs originally written in English, Portuguese and even Basque.
As a sample of my skills as literary translator I include at the end of book the translations of two poems and a short essay from Anna Lætitia Barbauld, or Aikin after her husband's surname, an enlightening as well as hidden English writer, who wrote almost all her work in the 18th century. She is not very well known in her country (or not as much as she should be) and almost not at all in Spain, so this may be the first publication of her work in our language.
There are a couple of sonnets that I almost submitted for the prize but did not include because I was not sure, and rightly so, that they were well done, and whose faults, years later, back in the spring of 1998, Agustín García Calvo shrewdly pointed out to me when I asked him if my hendecasyllables followed the rule of the Italian sonnet and then I would try them out until I found a line that complied with it. So much so that I had the honour of having one of them, so called Soneto del actor, retouched with brilliance and fluency by Agustín himself, who gave it to me in typewritten form, much to my surprise and some blushing. There are three versions in this order: the one I corrected, avoiding the mistakes marked by AGC, his own recreation and the one I composed back in 1986. The other is one sonnet I wrote between 1992 and 1993 on the death of another eminence, Jesús Ibáñez, of the sociology I studied as a career.
I include more sonnets and poems written after the 1997 edition as a proof of the evolution of my poetry and also some poems that I intend to publish in new books, one bilingual edition dedicated to Fernando Pessoa’s Mensagem and another with unedited and recent poems of my own.

En la idea de actualizar cierta terminología que hoy resulta desfasada y ofensiva, he decidido quitar en mi traducción el concepto «pigmy», que aparece tres veces cuando el profeta Almustafá al que da voz Yibrán habla del delito («crime» en el inglés original) y el castigo, en las páginas 54 y 59. Para mantener la coherencia entre el texto de origen y el de destino, lo he sustituido en el texto original, confiando en que nadie lo considere una alteración del mensaje o espíritu del original y que el propio autor, tan sensible como era, acepte desde allá donde esté, el cambio, que considero necesario y justificado.
Se presentan texto original y versión en español en sendas columnas en una suerte de versículos en un espejo fiel que facilite la lectura de la traducción y consultas rápidas al texto en inglés o viceversa. De ahí que retoque algo la puntuación y las mayúsculas del original para que coincida con mi versión en español. Así, he quitado mayúsculas en inglés (hay muchas después de coma y salto de renglón en el libro original) y las pongo cuando cambio esas comas por puntos. Espero que no se considere una falta de respeto al original ni a su autor, mis disculpas en ese caso. Lo que presento y lanzo al público es mi traducción y recreación en español.
My average daily output is from 2000 to 5000 words, depending on format and complexity and CAT tool. For general content in Word or PDF legible by Studio I can deliver a high-quality translation of 2000 words in 3-4 hours, according to complexity, exigence and urgency. To adapt, localize or transcreate, it can be about 5-6 h. Per day, maximum between 4000-7000 words, according to complexity and exigence. For proofreading, I estimate a minimum of 3000 and a maximum of 10000 words per day.
Translation, editing, proofreading rates:
My normal rates are between 0.07 € and 0.16 € per translated word and about 0.035 € and 0.07 € per proofread word, depending on the kind of text, turnaround time, monthly volume… For big projects or long-term collaborations, I would consider working with lower rates, if the monthly basis is reasonable. Per hour, between 17 € and 50 €. For MTPE I usually get 0.04 € per word.
