Source text - English 3.0 SEISMIC BRACING GENERAL REQUIREMENTS - MECHANICAL & PLUMBING PIPING

The above parameters for this section are worst case and apply to mechanical/plumbing piping and tubing of low (cast iron, glass, and non-ductile plastics), limited, or high deformability materials whether in accordance with ASME B31 or not. Joints can be threaded, bonded, compression coupling, grooved coupling, welded or brazed, per ASCE/SEI 7-10, Table 13.6-1. For additional factors for different systems see ASCE/SEI 7-10, Table 13.6-1.
I. Seismic restraints are required for the following piping installations:
A. All piping 1 1/4" diameter and larger where Seismic Design Category is D thru F and Ip is equal to 1.5.
B. All piping and trapeze supported piping weighing more than 10 lbs/ft with Ip of equal to 1.5 in Seismic Design Category D thru F.
C. Trapeze supported piping that would require seismic bracing if supported individually.
Exceptions:
Seismic restraints are not required where either condition i. or ii. below is met:
i. All piping suspended by individual hanger rods where hanger in piping run is 12 inches or less in length from the top of pipe to the bottom of the support structure where hanger is connected. (See Page 1-8a)
ii. Trapeze supported systems suspended 12 inches or less from the top of the trapeze to the bottom of the support structure where trapeze is connected. (See Page 1-8a)
In both exceptions above, all of the hangers of with the 12-inch rule or bracing is required.
The 12-inch rod rule exception has additional
a. Lateral motion of the piping will not cause impact with other systems (e.g. other pipe, duct, or electrical systems, equipment, structural members etc., or fragile appurtenances such as sprinkler heads or lighting fixtures) or loss of system vertical support.
b. Piping must be made of ductile material with ductile connections (e.g. welded steel pipe, etc.)
c. Vertical rod hanger top connections to the building structure cannot develop moments. Moments may be eliminated by using swivel attachments or by other means.
II. Transverse bracing shall be provided at 40 ft. maximum spacing (unless reduced spacing is required per Section 3,5,7,9, and 14) for welded steel pipe, or grooved piping with UL 213 listed connections. Rigid grooved coupling listed for UL Standard 213 shall be permitted in a horizontal run of pipe. Flexible grooved coupling listed for UL Standard 213 shall be permitted in vertical risers (to accommodate drift) and other locations (e.g. seismic separation, equipment nozzle, etc.) to accommodate small movement and/or rotation. Non-UL listed grooved couplings shall not be used unless approved on project specific basis.

ASME B31에 따르든 따르지 않든, 본 항의 상기 매개변수는 최악의 경우에 해당되며, 기계/위생 배관과 (주철, 유리, 비연성 플라스틱 등의) 품질이 비교적 낮고, 한계가 있으며, 또는 변형성이 높은 부재의 튜브에 적용된다. ASCE/SEJ 7-10, Table 13.6-1에 따르면, 이음에는 나사 이음, 접착 이음, 압축 커플링 이음, 그루브 커플링 이음, 용접 이음 또는 경납 이음이 있다. 다른 설비 관련 추가 요소들을 알고 싶으면, ASCE/SEI 7-10, Table 13.6-1을 참조할 것.
I. 아래와 같은 배관을 설치할 경우에는 내진 버팀대가 필요하다.
A. 내진 설계 범주가 D~F이고, lp가 1.5이며, 관경 32A(1-1/4”) 이상의 모든 배관
B. 내진 설계 범주가 D~F이고, lp가 1.5이며, 무게가 10lbs/ft를 초과하는 모든 배관과 트래피즈로 지지되는 배관
C. 개별 지지할 경우 내진 버팀대가 필요한 트래피즈로 지지되는 배관
예외:
아래의 i 또는 ii 조건을 충족할 경우에는 내진 버팀대가 필요하지 않다.
i. 배관 꼭지점(TOP)에서 행가가 연결된 지지 구조물의 바닥지점(BOP)까지의 행가의 길이가 12”(0.3m) 이하인 행가 로드(hanger rod)로 매달린 모든 배관. (1-8a 페이지 참조)
ii. 트래피즈의 꼭지점에서 트래피즈로 연결되는 지지 구조물의 바닥지점까지의 길이가 12” 이하인 트래피즈로 지지되는 시스템. (1-8a 페이지 참조)
위의 두 가지 예외의 경우, 배관망의 모든 행가는 12” 규칙을 따르거나, 아니면 내진 버팀대 필요하거나 둘 중의 하나이다.
12” 행가 Rod 규칙의 예외에는 추가 요건이 있다.
a. 배관의 횡방향 움직임으로 (예컨대, 다른 배관, 덕트 또는 전기 시스템, 장비, 구조 부재 등 또는 스프링클러 헤드 또는 전등과 같이 깨어지기 쉬운 부속 장치들과 같은) 다른 시스템과의 충돌이 일어나거나 또는 시스템 수직 지지대가 손실되지는 않는다.
b. 배관은 (용접 강관 등과 같은) 연성 연결부가 있는 연성 재질로 만들어져야 한다.
c. 수직 막대 행가의 상부를 건물 구조와 연결하더라도 모멘트가 발생할 수 없다. 모멘트는 회전식 부착물을 사용하거나 또는 다른 방법으로 제거할 수도 있다.
II. 용접 강관 또는 UL 213 인증 받은 연결 자재로 연결한 그루브 배관에 대해서는 (3,5,7 및 9 절에 따라 간격이 줄어지지 않는 한) 최대 40’ 간격으로 횡방향 버팀대를 하여야 한다. UL 표준 213에 따라 사용 인증을 받은 고정형(rigid) 그루브 커플링은 수평 배관망에 사용할 수 있도록 허용되어야 한다. UL 표준 213에 따라 사용 인증을 받은 연성(flexible) 그루브 커플링은 작은 움직임 및 / 또는 회전을 수용할 수 있도록 (드리프트를 수용하는) 수직 입상관과 (예컨대, 내진 분리, 장비 노즐 등과 같은) 기타 위치에서 허용되어야 한다. 개별 프로젝트별로 승인을 받지 않는 한 UL 인증 받지 못한 그루브 커플링은 사용하지 않아야 한다.
