Bio
Translation is not a mere profession I am taking up. However, it is more of a hobby I practice professionally. I started my early steps in the translation career in a Dutch-funded project where I was responsible for the translation of the project’s documents and reports. I then decided that a first academic degree would not be sufficient. Therefore, I obtained an English Translation Diploma from Cairo University Faculty of Arts in 2003. My next destination was the American University in Cairo where I took courses on translation and interpreting. Then, I moved to the Egyptian Ministry of Investment where I translated news and reports of the Ministry. I had some significant achievements, including the translation of special-events publication such as those for the Euromoney Conference. In 2011, I had the opportunity to work of the International Committee of the Red Cross in its Cairo-based Communication Support Center. I moved a step forward by joining the International Humanitarian Law Department of Cairo Delegation. I am mandated to do the translation of documents related to international law, human rights, criminal law, refugees, detention, health care and economic security. I am also commissioned to do interpreting inside and outside Egypt. I had missions to Algeria, Lebanon and Pakistan. Throughout my career, I have been working as a freelancer with top-notch organizations, including the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). Moreover, I am included on the roaster of the World Bank Group. As a translator is a bridge, which carries knowledge and thought from a culture into another, I have completed a Diploma of English and Comparative Literature. The objective in mind was to acquire a wider understanding of the cultures of the source and target languages. I possess good linguistic skills, which are reflected into my translation and writings. My score on the writing section of the TOEFL IBT test was 29 out of 30. I have recently started an intensive course of French to increase my language and translation profile.
Sincerely, Tarek Fawzy
