Source text - English Small-scale farmers are now shifting from the use of inorganic manure over organic fertilizers in their lands to boost their farm production.
This follows an intensified civic education carried by the Ministry of Agriculture in the last three months in the country. The target areas are mostly those regions whose economic status have been lagging behind others for the last two decades, and also areas where residents have not fully embraced crop farming.
Among the benefits talked about by the lead educator, Grace Karambu, who's also the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, is the fact that organic manures are readily available to the residents since they already have domestic animals on their farms. "Instead of allowing this manure to go to waste, you can use it to enrich your farms at no extra cost," she said.
She also said that unlike inorganic fertilizers, organic fertilizers and manures compost easily and their nutrients are readily available to plants.
Translation - Swahili Wakulima wadogo wadogo sasa wanahama kutoka kwa matumizi ya mbolea zisizo za kikaboni hadi mbolea za kikaboni katika mashamba yao ili kuongeza uzalishaji wao wa kilimo.
Hii inafuatia elimu ya kiraia iliyozidishwa na Wizara ya Kilimo katika miezi mitatu iliyopita hapa nchini. Maeneo yanayolengwa zaidi ni mikoa ambayo hali yake ya kiuchumi imebakia nyuma ya mingine kwa miongo miwili iliyopita, na pia maeneo ambayo wakazi bado hawajakumbatia kwa kikamilifu kilimo cha mazao.
Miongoni mwa faida zilizozungumziwa na mwalimu mkuu, Grace Karambu, ambaye pia ni Katibu Mkuu katika wizara hiyo, ni kwamba kwa ukweli mbolea za kikaboni zinapatikana kwa urahisi kwa wakazi kwani tayari wanafuga wanyama wa nyumbani kwenye mashamba yao. "Badala ya kuruhusu mbolea hii ipotee bure, mnaweza kuitumia ili kuimarisha mashamba yenu bila gharama yoyote," alisema.
Pia alisema kuwa kinyume na mbolea zisizo za kikaboni, mbolea za kikaboni huingia ardhini kwa urahisi na virutubisho vyake viko tayari kutumika kwa mimea.
