English to Italian (Institute of Translation and Interpreting) English to Italian (TEFL) English to Italian (Institute of Linguists Educational Trust (Chartered Institute of Linguists))
My English was already a very high standard then, having been exposed to it since nursery school, at the Marymount College in Rome, and having chosen modern languages for my higher education in Viareggio (Tuscany).
I have translated, taught and interpreted for a lot longer than 10 years, though I only started taking it seriously around 2005, after attaining the Chartered Institute of Linguists' Diploma in Public Service Interpreting. I work as interpreter for the police, courts, hospitals, private companies and the BBC. I have a Cambridge Proficiency in English diploma and a TEFL (Teacher of English as a Foreign Language) certificate. I tought Italian for the International Correspondence School (whose Italian course I authored) between 2001 and 2015 and I have been part-time in-house translator for a polymers import-export agency since 2006. I am Italian Assessor for the Chartered Institute of Linguists (Educational Trust) DPSI examination.
I speak four languages, though I would never dream of using anything else but the English > Italian combination in translation. I have a passion for arts and crafts and for science. Particularly life sciences and ecology.
My entire CPD-history revolves around these subjects and I am very passionate about continuous professional development: I have attained the CPD Award from the Institute of Translation and Interpreting every year, since joining in 2012. My latest venture is a MOOC on neuroscience run by Harvard University (for which I am also translating subtitles into Italian, though they won’t be up and running for a good few months).
I am a keen hill-walker, and organizing trekking holidays in the Alps in minute details for seven people every summer has made me a natural project manager!
