Source text - English At the beginning of the 20th century, the American public rejected a central bank, as, according to the public opinion, the concept of an open market seemed socialistic. In order to change the public opinion, the private bankers initiated an artificial banking panic by spreading rumours that the Knickerbocker Bank and the Trust Company of America were faced with bankruptcy. The subsequent run on several banks actually really led to a collapse of various banks. Not until J.P. Morgan imported gold worth 100 million dollars from Europe in order to prevent the banking crisis did the mood change to “in favour of a central bank”.
Translation - German Die amerikanische Öffentlichkeit lehnte Anfang des 20.
