Source text - English These reflections may make less surprising to us what is the most striking fact about the philosophy of expression; namely, that the value acquired by the expressive thing is often of an entirely
different kind from that which the thing expressed possesses. The expression of physical pleasure, of passion, or even of pain, may constitute beauty and please the beholder. Thus the value of the
second term may be physical, or practical, or even negative; and it may be transmuted, as it passes to the first term, into a value at once positive and aesthetic. The transformation of practical values into aesthetic has often been noted, and has even led to the theory that beauty is utility seen at arm's length; a premonition of pleasure and prosperity, much as smell is a premonition of taste. The transformation of negative values into positive has naturally
attracted even more attention, and given rise to various theories of the comic, tragic, and sublime.

Ekspresja przyjemności fizycznej, namiętności czy nawet bólu może konstytuować piękno i zadawalać odbiorcę. Dlatego wartość drugiego aspektu może być fizyczna lub praktyczna, a nawet negatywna, może też być przekształcona, gdy przechodzi do pierwszego aspektu, w wartość od razu pozytywną i estetyczną. Często odnotowywano przekształcenie wartości praktycznej w estetyczną, co doprowadziło do teorii, w której piękno jest utożsamiane z użytecznością widzianą z dystansu (przeczucie przyjemności i dobrobytu, tak jak zapach jest przeczuciem smaku). Przekształcenie negatywnej wartości w pozytywną naturalnie przyciągnęło jeszcze większą uwagę i doprowadziło do powstania różnych teorii komizmu, tragedii i wzniosłości.

In the Roman period writing was often done with a pointed metal writing implement called a stylus (plural styli). These were used with writing tablets in which a thin piece of wood had part of its face hollowed out and filled with wax. The stylus then scratched letters into the wax. When the piece of writing was finished with, the user then just rubbed the wax smooth with the other, broad, end of the stylus and could start writing something new.
The number of styli found in excavations shows that many Romans had learned to read and write, and used writing in their everyday lives. These examples were all found in the old Roman town of Caistor by Norwich (called Venta Icenorum by the Romans)

W okresie rzymskim często pisano za pomocą ostro zakończonego metalowego narzędzia zwanego stylus (liczba mnoga: stylusy). Używano ich wraz z tabliczkami do pisania, w których wydrążano cienką warstwę drewna i zastępowano ją woskiem. Następnie żłobiono stylusem litery w wosku. Skończywszy pisać, użytkownik po prostu wymazywał wosk na gładko drugim, szerokim końcem stylusa i można było zacząć pisać coś nowego.
Liczba stylusów, które znaleziono w wykopaliskach pokazuje, że wielu Rzymian umiało czytać i pisać, a także wykorzystywali pisanie w życiu codziennym. Te egzemplarze zostały znalezione w dawnym miasteczku Rzymskim Caistor by Norwich (zwanym przez Rzymian Venta Icenorum).

I have a Masters in Applied Translation from the University of East Anglia, and am a Polish native speaker with experience of living in both England and Spain. I currently live in the Czech Republic.
I have extensive experience with translation and other language services (e.g. media analysis, transcription) across a range of languages. For example, I have translated three books (two children's books and a non-fiction book) from English to Polish and have worked for the past three years translating media content for a regional development agency in Poland. I have most recently been working on a large project translating beauty product labels (skin care, hair care, make up, manicure).
