Translation - English The Internet is changing the power relationships between companies in the PC market. Vendors such as A Corp and B Corp are aiming at some of the online revenue already generated by in-house hardware. It's a matter of re-setting keyboards to add the functionality of quick access to the websites of affiliated companies. Corporate executives believe that Internet and related business sales account for as much as 25% of sales to general consumers. Eventually, it is possible that PCs set to Internet services, will be distributed for almost nothing.
However, our analyst Ben Smith believes that these sales techniques do not make sense. He pointed out as follows:
(1) Today’s internet-related businesses may not necessarily survive indefinitely
(2) Unlike the relationship between mobile phones and wireless services, those of PC and internet services are independent of each other,
(3) Unlike PCs which are still more expensive than internet service, in the mobile phone market handsets are dumped for almost nothing
In any case, if the information appliance market spreads to the consumer, there is no doubt in the long term this will have a negative impact on sales of the PC. Just as the PC stole the market from the mainframe and the microcomputer, so the appliance market is likely to slow the growth of the PC market. Generally, an appliance is not a device, which can cover the functions of the modern PC. Rather, new applications are serially created for use in appliances. X Corp forecasts that while the USA PC market will grow by 12% per year until 2002, the information appliance market in the same period will grow 98% per year. The number of information appliances sold on the consumer market will exceed that of PCs by 2002, and by 2005 is expected to dominate the total number of shipments also. As the number of devices increases, various applications will be developed.

1 Regarding the target disease
1.1 Outline of the target disease
【Glioblastoma】
Of all malignant tumors, those derived from glial cells (astrocytes primarily) are noted for being extremely undifferentiated and having a highly proliferative capacity. Tumors are often accompanied by bleeding, and necrosis can be seen in the tumor. Tumor cells come in various shapes such as round and spindle, and a wide disparity of sizes.
【Pathological condition】
Progress is fast due to the rapid growth of the tumor. Symptoms deteriorate within a few weeks.
【Symptoms】
Intracranial pressure symptoms are observed due to the rapid growth of the tumor. Headache is often the first symptom. As with other brain tumors, a severe headache is often seen in the morning. Also seen are motor paralysis, convulsions, and disorientation.
【Prognosis】
It is the worst of all brain tumors, and in the worst category of all malignant tumors. 1-year survival rate is 51.6%, 3-year survival rate 13.1%, 5-year survival rate is 7.8%. In addition, glioblastoma has almost no distance metastasis, any metastasis being solely within the brain.

1.2 Target patient numbers
Annually the number of occurrences of glioblastoma in Japan is 1,646 people, and the 5-year survival rate of this disease has become 6.9%.

1.3 Current treatment
The standard treatment for Glioblastoma in Japan is removal of (as much as possible of) the tumor by surgery, after which radiotherapy (local irradiation 60Gy) in combination with temozolomide (TMZ), after which maintenance therapy with oral temozolomide (TMZ).
Survival rate (median) in Japan by the standard treatment is about 18 months, so it can be said that the disease has a poor prognosis.
【Problems with current treatment】
➢ Even optimal treatment gives a 6-month median overall survival.
➢ Treatment options are limited (mainly chemotherapy)
➢ Great pain is a side effect of chemotherapy, often forcing the treatment to be abandoned.
・ Nausea and vomiting, constipation, decreased appetite, anorexia
・ Headache, fatigue
・ Feeling of heat or pain at the site of administration, flushing of the face, flushing of the skin
➢ Side-effects of the existing therapy decrease the patient’s quality of life.
