Source text - Russian
Translation - English “I See Your Image”
Music by A. Alyabiev, Words by A. Bistrom (from Goethe)
I see your image when the breath of dawn
lights up the dense darkness of sleeping nature,
and flowing through the fields of fragrant flowers,
I see your image.
I see your image when a tear rolls
from the light blue eyes of Golden Morning
that sees a rose in the silver stream.
I see your image.
I see your image in the Sun, the King of the Universe,
that solemnly sweeps by in the blue dome
and in every drop of water are gilded beams.
I see your image.
I see your image when the day dies down
and the pale moon sails into nocturnal shadows,
immersing me in sweet oblivion.
I see your image.

Source text - Russian
-Fyodor I. Tyutchev
Translation - English “Effort in Vain”
Effort in vain… no, you cannot reason with them.
The more liberal they are, the more ignoble they seem.
They are enamored with Civilization
though the idea eludes them.
As you kneel before her, gentlemen,
you gain no acknowledgement from Europe.
In her eyes you will forever be
not servants of Enlightenment, but slaves.
