Recently retired from a language teaching career spanning 30 years, I’ve decided to spend the next 10 or so years concentrating on translating and interpreting.
I’ve lived and worked in France for 8 years where, apart from education, I worked in a variety of sectors including hospitality, tourism and for 2 years in construction/engineering.
Throughout my years in France and indeed at home in Ireland I was often called upon to translate and interpret. For example at CER92 in Asnieres, Paris where I was employed, translating was part of my remit, mostly in the textile industry. While teaching English at air traffic control in Bordeaux I was called upon to interpret at a conference of airport managers from EU airports.
Teaching language to GCSE and A Level has been my main occupation for the past 22 years and as such I am experienced in ensuring the grammatical correctness and true meaning of translations at an advanced level.
I am currently using Fluency Translation Suite 2013 (compatible with Trados files). Other software includes Microsoft word and excel.
I am seeking to establish myself with translation agencies and my rates are 0.04 euro per word at this stage.
