In the Mood for China
Some men live between two worlds, carrying in themselves a blend of West and East just as perfectly balanced as Yin and Yang. You can find them in Europe or America, although business, love or destiny will inevitably set their path towards the East. Ermenegildo Zegna celebrates these fascinating and deeply contemporary individuals by devoting the 2011 Fall/Winter collection to China, a country very well known to the brand: Zegna arrived there first 20 years ago, and has been successfully established ever since.
The Chinese ability for shaping their destiny serves as an inspiration for rigorous clothes, borrowing some of their appeal from Chinese Revolution uniforms and mixing it with the flawless and hypermasculine style of 1940s clothing. Their sober palette can be seen as a perfect passport for travelling to far countries and distant cultures. Anthracite greys turning to black, tea and mahogany tones ranging from red to brown and touches of bamboo green, revealing unexpected, shiny silk details woven with the image of a celebrated piece of classical Chinese art*. This unique detail, more or less visible, rendered in lacquer red or bronze, is the trademark of the entire collection.
Silhouettes are defined by straight shouldered three-button suits and jackets, as well as streamlined high-cuff trousers, to be worn with snug raglan overcoats. The sporting attitude is echoed by utility touches and tweed-effect or macro Prince of Wales fabrics. Moving away from their usual roughness, Zegna reinvents them as sumptuous, bi-color “Cashmere Duo”. The new ”Cashco Goffrato” waffle fabric makes its debut, interweaving worn-looking cotton and wool. Paying homage to the Chinese theme, the collection's only wool pinstripe, the “15milmil15”, hints at the shape of bamboo canes.
The outerwear is nonchalant and practical, with waxed cotton and leather peacoats, as well as buffed-off shearling duffle coats. Many hand-crafted cashmere sweaters, some of them with suede embroideries, also inspired from the imperial painting.
To our man, the day is a time for action and conquest, whereas the night brings along the well-deserved pleasures of a new lifestyle. That's when he can rediscover his own refinement and sensuality and, protected by retro evening glasses, embrace the elusive mysteries of nightlife. Zegna's tailoring excellence provides him with silk satin and velvet garments in cuts that are both sexy and sophisticated, silk ottoman long jackets with an additional light padding in the daring kimono-cut version, lined with the same color print silk that can be found in the small button collar shirts.
Smart echoes of oriental themes enrich the accessories, like the leather combat-type boot with a slightly upcurved tip and the ‘slipper-like’ shoe, both with a hand-finished thick sole. Dedicated to globetrotters are iPad shoulder cases, waist pouches and new upgraded belts with useful solutions for techno-gadgets. Holdall bags come in printed leather, and the “Duo Ties” contain a hidden Zegna seal in Chinese handwriting.
*Along the River During the Qingming Festival by Zhang Zeduan – circa 1100 – is a panoramic painting depicting the country and city everyday life of artisans and aristocrats in China.

تشكيلة إرمنيجيلدو زينيا لخريف وشتاء 2011
بلمسة مستوحاة من الصين
هنالك فئة من الرجال، كانوا ولا زالوا يعيشون الحياة وسط عالمين اثنين، يحملون في طي أنفسهم مزيجاً من الغرب والشرق، يتناغم تماماً مثل رمز الين واليانغ الصيني. مثل هؤلاء الرجال موجودين في قارة أوروبا أو القارة الأمريكية، وقد يكون الحب أو القدر أو حتى العمل قد وضعهم في المكان المتوسط لحضارتين، فهذا هو الدرب الذي رُسم لهم وهذا هو السبب الذي كرَّست له إرمنيجيلدو زينيا تشكيلتها لخريف وشتاء 2011، إعجاباً بهذه الفئة المعاصرة من الرجال. إنها الصين البلد القريب جداً على قلب هذه العلامة التي زارته منذ 20 عاماً مضت، فعشقته، وحصدت نجاحاً لافتاً فيه منذ ذلك الحين.
شكلت التقاليد والطقوس الصينية مصدر إلهام لملابسهم، فمنها ما تميز بالتفاصيل القوية الواضحة المتأثرة بالأزياء الرسمية العسكرية الصينية والممزوجة مع تصاميم تعكس قمة الرجولة لفترة الأربعينيات من القرن المنصرم. ومنها ركزت على الأسلوب الوقور ذو الحس العالي والأصول النبيلة، لتفرض بجاذبيتها الانطباع السائد للأزياء الصينية في مخلية مختلف الشعوب والثقافات. من هنا تم استقاء حفنة من الألوان من واقع هذه البقعة على الأرض، إذ نلاحظ هنا مجموعة من مشتقات الألوان الرمادية الفحمية والتي تتدرج إلى الأسود، ومن ثم درجات لون الشاي وخشب الماهوجاني ابتداءً من اللون الأحمر فالبني ومن ثم لمسات من أخضر شجر البامبو، بحيث تكشف المجموعة عن ابتكارات غير معهودة، غاية في التناغم والانسجام، ومن هنا يبرز الحرير المتألق بتفاصيل واضحة تمت حياكتها استناداً إلى تحف تقليدية من الفن الصيني العريق*. فتلك التفاصيل دقيقة كانت أو واضحة تتميز بانفراد لوني نادرة يظهر بألوان حمراء سائلة وإضافات برونزية خفيفة تتواجد في كامل التشكيلة هذه.
تم تحديد القوام الممشوق والكتفين العريضين بمعطف وبذّة ذات ثلاث أزرار، إضافة إلى سروال إنسيابي ذو ثنايا عالية، ويتم ارتداؤه مع معطف ’ريغلان‘ أنيق. تظهر على هذه التشكيلة لمسات رياضية سواءً بالنسيج الصوفي الخشن أو أقمشة ’برنس أوف ويلز‘ ذات النقوش المعروفة. يُذكر أنه ولتلافي خشونة هذه الخامات، قامت زينيا بإعادة ابتكارهم لتأتي بأقمشة مترفة ثنائي اللون " أقمشة كشمير ديو". والجديد في هذه المجموعة، بروز أقمشة "كاشكو جوفراتو" المكونة من القطن المحاك مع الصوف. ولتعزيز الإيحاء الصيني، اقتصر الصوف المستخدم في التشكيلة على النوع "15 ملم" ليوحي بقصب البامبو.
أما الأزياء الخارجية، تم التركيز فيها على خلق انطباع من اللامبالاة لكن مع الأداء العملي، وقد تم ذلك من خلال المعاطف القطنية والجلدية المزدوجة الأزرار، ومعاطف البحّارة المصنوعة من جلد الحملان. يضاف إلى المجموعة سترات كشمير فاخرة يدوية الصنع، وبعضها الآخر من التريكو، وكلها مستوحاة من اللوحات والرسومات والفن الإمبراطوري الصيني العريق.
صُممت مجموعة إرمنيجيلدو زينيا لخريف وشتاء 2011 للرجل الذي يبدأ يومه بالمهام الصعبة ويحصد النجاحات واحدة تلو الأخرى، وأثناء الليل يكافئ جهوده بالاستمتاع بأسلوب فريد يعكس ما يرغب به ويشعره بالرضى عن انجازاته. هذا هو الرجل الذي كان في مخيلة زينيا أثناء العمل على هذه المجموعة، وهو نفس الرجل الذي يستحق نصيباً من الرفاهية والإحساس بحيث يرتدي نظارات مسائية ويتخفى بلمسة من الغموض والكلاسكية والأناقة المترفة. فهذا الرجل هو ما تبتكر زينيا له أفخر وأرقى الثياب وتلبسه الحرير والمخمل لتمنحه جاذبية وتضيف إلى رجولته لمستها الخاصة بتصاميم مركبة، وتصنع له المعاطف العثمانية الحريرية الطويلة ذات الحشوة الخفيفة، وتزينه بأزرار حريرية وياقات ملونة.
في حال رغبنا الاختصار في وصف تشكيلة إرمنيجيلدو زينيا لخريف وشتاء 2011، فستكون: نفحات من الشرق الأقصى الذكية الغنية بالإكسسوارات والأحذية الجلدية المعقوفة قليلاً للأعلى والمصنوعة يدوياً. حقائب آي-باد للكتف، ومحافظ على الخصر مع أحزمة قابلة لتعليق بعض الإكسسوارات فيها. وأخيراً وليس أخراً، حقائب عريضة من الجلد المنقوش وربطات عنق ثنائية تحمل ختم زينيا بالكتابة الصينية.
*لوحة "بجانب النهر في مهرجان كوينغ مينغ" للفنان زهانغ زيدو وان – رُسمت في العام 1100 تقريباً – وهي لوحة بانورامية تُصوّر الحياة اليومية للحرفيين والأرستقراطيين في المدينة في الصين.
