Source text - English Possibly the most unfortunate effect of the manipulation of religions emerges from the use of specific aspects of religion or scriptures to repress a person or a group of people. As human’s repression only leads to the stifling of what could have brilliant and revolutionary ideas. In “La respuesta”, Sor Juana used some manipulation of the reasons behind her desire for knowledge in order to prove her point. Although it seems like Sor Juana is interested in learning about almost anything and everything possible, her religious studies dominate her time as she has devoted her life to the Catholic Church as a nun. Some high leaders of the church, nonetheless, believe that she spends too much time studying the secular world, in particular works of literature, prose, and poetry that were banned from the country. This manipulation used by the church officials to make sure that Sor Juana can only study religious texts and ideas leads to a particular moving passage of “The response” where she begs the reader to question how women were expected to understand certain parts of the bible and the teachings during sermons if they are not educated on the background knowledge necessary for comprehension. She uses passive manipulation to appeal to the religious affinity of the church leaders, uplifting the question of how women are expected to be faithful servants of God and Jesus Christ and the Holy Bible without the proper tools to decipher and understand it. This is the underlying purpose and objective of her response to Sor Filotea. Her logical argument, although becoming more and more heated and elevated at times due to her immense passion and desire, allows her argument to be heard and outlines her as one of the first published feminists of the new world. The most important element of her argument, however, is the relative unbiased. In comparison to the other works discussed, including the movie portraying her life and struggle, Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz has relatively nothing to gain from her response to the letter of Sor Filotea and the overall feelings of the Catholic Church. Her overwhelming passion causes her to translate her thoughts to words on paper even though they were most certain to get her in more trouble. She felt so strongly about the inequalities between men and women, especially involving religion, that her purpose and objective in writing “The response” was simply to have her argument be heard on behalf of all women and people being treated unjustly based on an innate condition or characteristic, including gender or skin color.

It was under this political system that Athens successfully resisted the Persian onslaughts of 490 and 480/79, most conspicuously at the battles of Marathon and Salamis. That victory in turn encouraged the poorest Athenians to demand a greater say in the running of their city, and in the late 460s Ephialtes and Pericles presided over a radicalisation of power that shifted the balance decisively to the poorest sections of society. This was the democratic Athens that won and lost an empire, that built the Parthenon, that gave a stage to Aeschylus, Sophocles, Euripides and Aristophanes, and that laid the foundations of western rational and critical thought.
The democratic system was not, of course, without internal critics, and when Athens had been weakened by the catastrophic Peloponnesian War (431-404) these critics got their chance to translate word into deed. In 411 and again in 404 Athenian oligarchs led counter-revolutions that replaced democracy with extreme oligarchy. In 404 the oligarchs were supported by Athens's old enemy, Sparta - but even so the Athenian oligarchs found itimpossible to maintain themselves in power, and after just a year democracy was restored. A general amnesty was declared (the first in recorded history) and - with some notorious 'blips' such as the trial of Socrates - the restored Athenian democracy flourished stably and effectively for another 80 years. Finally, in 322, the kingdom of Macedon which had risen under Philip and his son Alexander the Great to become the suzerain of all Aegean Greece terminated one of the most successful experiments ever in citizen self-government. Democracy continued elsewhere in the Greek world to a limited extent - until the Romans extinguished it for good.

Workers create products by mixing their own labor in with natural resources to make new, composite things that have greater economic value. Thus, the labor itself is objectified, its worth turned into an ordinary thing that can be bought and sold on the open market, a mere commodity. The labor now exists in a form entirely external to the worker, separated forever from the human being whose very life it once was. This is the root of what Marx called alienation, a destructive feature of industrial life.
Workers in a capitalistic economic system become trapped in a vicious circle: the harder they work, the more resources in the natural world are appropriated for production, which leaves fewer resources for the workers to live on, so that they have to pay for their own livelihood out of their wages, to earn which they must work even harder. When the very means of subsistence are commodities along with labor, their is no escape for the "wage slave."
Thus, Marx pointed out, workers are alienated in several distinct ways: from their products as externalized objects existing independently of their makers; from the natural world out of which the raw material of these products has been appropriated; from their own labor, which becomes a grudging necessity instead of a worthwhile activity; and from each other as the consumers of the composite products. These dire conditions, according to Marx, are the invariable consequences of industrial society.
