English to Chinese: Acquainted with the Night General field: Art/Literary Detailed field: Poetry & Literature
Source text - English I have been one acquainted with the night.
I have walked out in rain --and back in rain.
I have outwalked the furthest city light.
I have looked down the saddest city lane.
I have passed by the watchman on his beat
And dropped my eyes, unwilling to explain.
I have stood still and stopped the sound of feet
When far away an interrupted cry
Came over houses from another street,
But not to call me back or say good-bye;
And further still at an unearthly height
One luminary clock against the sky
Proclaimed the time was neither wrong nor right.
I have been one acquainted with the night.
Translation - English My friends described me as follows:
“He is a quiet person with a shy smile.
If you try to make a small talk, your efforts are usually in vain.
However, once you start talking about painting with him,
his face would shine; his eyes, twinkle.
With radiant confidence, he would allow his thoughts
flow freely; his words, endlessly.
When he is entranced in his brushstrokes,
you would mistake him for Van Gogh.
You could see him passionately paint alone at the foot
of the mountains at an early dawn, at a moonlit seashore,
on the riverside at high noon, or even at the high plateaus in Tibet,
Because of his determined sense of isolation and passion for the arts,
I always contemplate the fine element of touch revealed by his paintings.”
I was an ink painter, and I expect myself to infuse the idea of soulfulness,
calmness, and clarity into my oil painting works.
I paint as if I heard Van Gogh’s calling.
I enjoy being in tune to what is in my heart in the moment and
defining it. I thrill at connecting with my entire self.
Several years ago, I had a glance at a picture of Tibet incidentally.
That glimpse made me weep and finally embrace Tibet.
I am fond of traveling, because I can use my paintbrushes to capture
the beautiful encounters and the pleasant times on the road.
I hope my paintings are magnetic enough to accompany you,
