My interest in languages started at a young age with my parents taking me to Spanish speaking countries. My first trip outside of the United States was when I was 5 years old and we drove a VW van down to Mexico. I loved the heat and I loved the water, but mostly I loved trying to communicate with kids my age in a language I had had very little exposure to. Once I came back to the states I decided that languages were my thing and asked my mom for books in Spanish and American Sign Language (because I loved Linda on Sesame Street).
Since then, I have learned to speak both fluently with certifications to back up my experience. I am very active in the Deaf community in Seattle and have also spent time living in Spain. I love the balance of live interpreting work and its “think quick” nature and the “fine- toothed comb” approach of translation. |
