Natasha: Somos de Colombia; yo soy de la ciudad de Medellín, Diego es de la ciudad de Cali. Comenzamos a bailar hace siete años juntos. Cada uno lleva por separado, yo lllevo quince años, Diego lleva once años, y la historia de cada uno es diferente.
Yo empecé a bailar tango desde los catorce años, empecé a bailar porque me gustó verlo. Lo ví en un show, me pareció muy lindo el baile, siempre me había gustado bailar, escucho tango desde niña, pero lo que me llevó a aprender a bailar tango fué el baile, en primera instancia. Comencé a bailar, y ya después no pude parar. Aquí estoy.
Hay mucha cultura de tango en Medellín, en Bogotá y Cali. Tenemos un historial muy grande. De hecho, en algún momento decimos que somos atrevidos en el hecho de decir que Colombia es el segundo país donde más se baila y se escucha el tango.
Diego: Mi caso fué en Cali, estaba haciendo la licenciatura en arte teatral, en bellas artes, y por casualidad, una de las escuelas de Cali, para un montaje teatral necesitaba unos actores, pero que a su vez hicieran danza. Fuimos e hicimos el casting con unos amigos, pasamos, y a partir de ahí nace toda lo que es esta historia tanguera en mi vida, por así decirlo. Y sí, como decía la negrita, justamente el tango en Colombia creo
que poco a poco va ganando más adeptos, ¿no?
Y bueno, nosotros bailamos tango hace siete años. Nos encanta bailarlo. Creo que es un logro muy grande el que hemos conseguido, no solamente el hecho de representar el tango de nuestro país, sino ahora ser embajadores del tango ante el mundo.
Es cierto, no se necesita ser argentino para bailar, pero tampoco podemos desconocer de donde viene el tango. Y no es quererlo hacer igual que ellos, simplemente es aprender una cultura, aprender una forma de bailarlo, pero cada uno de nosotros tenemos nuestra manera, y creo que eso es lo lindo, ¿no?
Si el tango fuera una sola cosa, no sería. Es algo bonito, por ese lado.
Natasha: Pero para ser diferente, para marcar una diferencia en lo que haces, debe haber eso, esa parte del sentimiento, ¿cómo yo vivo el tango? ¿Cómo yo le doy al tango un norte que me caracterize, me va a hacer diferente de los demás? No para ser mejor que nadie, pero sí para ser diferente.
Translation - English Natasha: We’re from Colombia: I’m from the city of Medellin, Diego’s from the city of Cali. We’ve been dancing together for seven years. Individually, I’ve been dancinf for fifteen years, Diego for eleven, and each has a different story.
I’ve been dancing since I was fourteen years old. I started since I loved seeing it. I saw a show, thought it was a beautiful dance, I’ve always enjoyed dancing, have been listening to tangos since I was a child, but what led me to dance the tango was the dance, first and foremost. I started dancing it, and couldn’t stop. Here I am.
There’s a strong tango culture in Medellin, Bogota and Cali. We have a long history. In fact, sometimes we get bold and dare say that Colombia is the second country for the most dancing and listening tango.
Diego: In my case, I was in Cali, working on my bachelor’s in theater arts, in fine arts, and it so happened that one of the schools in Cali needed actors for a play, but who also could dance. We went to the casting call with some friends, got the part, and that’s how my tango history was born, so to speak. And, yes, as my honey says, in Colombia tango’s gaining more followers.
And well, we’ve been dancing tango for seven years. We love to dance it. I think it’s a very big accomplishment, not only to represent tango from our country, but to now also be tango ambassadors to the world.
True, you don’t need to be Argentinian to dance it, but we can’t ignore where tango originated. And it’s not wanting to do it the same as they, simply it’s to learn a culture, learn a way of dancing it, but each one of us has our way, and that’s the beautiful thing.
If tango was only one thing, it wouldn’t be. That’s what makes it beautiful.
But for it to be different, for you to make it different, it must have that, it should be part of a feeling, how do I live tango? How am I giving tango a compass point that characterizes me, will make me different from the others? Not for being better than anyone, but to be different, yes.

Montevideo, 6 dic (EFE).- El viceprimer ministro israelí, Moshé Yaalon, afirmó hoy en una entrevista con Efe que Irán está creando, con la connivencia de Venezuela, una “infraestructura terrorista” en Latinoamérica para atentar contra Estados Unidos, Israel y sus aliados.
“La idea es armar una infraestructura terrorista que durante un tiempo esté adormecida y que en su momento pueda atacar intereses de Estados Unidos o en Estados Unidos”, así como intereses “israelíes o judíos o de cualquier otro país que se oponga a su postura política”, indicó.
Yaalon, quien hoy culminó en Montevideo una visita a Uruguay en la que se reunió con el vicepresidente del país, Danilo Astori, entre otras autoridades, puso como ejemplo de esa teórica estrategia un supuesto complot para atentar contra el embajador saudí en los Estados Unidos, revelado recientemente.
Ese caso, en el que EE.UU. involucró a Irán y que fue condenado el pasado 18 de noviembre por la Asamblea General de la ONU, no es el único, como demuestran otros episodios del pasado, señaló.
“Este tipo de infraestructura terrorista ya actuó en 1992 contra la Embajada de Israel en Buenos Aires y en 1994 en contra de la mutual judía de la AMIA”, también en la capital argentina, detalló.
Según Yaalon la estrategia se enmarca en los planes de Teherán de “exportar la revolución iraní, primero a los países circundantes”, como Irak, Afganistán, el Líbano o el territorio palestino, “y después a Occidente”.
El viceprimer ministro, quien en la década de los noventa fue jefe de inteligencia militar, explicó que los datos de que dispone su país revelan que en América Latina “este tipo de infraestructura enrola elementos musulmanes que existen en la zona y también se apoya en los barones del narcotráfico”.
“También se respalda en la inmunidad que tienen los diplomáticos iraníes en la zona” y “aprovecha muy especialmente la forma hospitalaria cómo son recibidos por el presidente (de Venezuela Hugo) Chávez y de esa forma ingresa en todo el continente”, denunció.
Para Yaalon “el hecho de que los pasaportes iraníes no necesiten visa para entrar en Venezuela”, un país que rompió relaciones con Israel en 2009 por la situación en Gaza, les abre las puertas para entrar en toda América Latina”.
A consulta expresa dijo no tener indicios de vinculación entre esos supuestos terroristas iraníes y las Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (FARC).
El viceprimer ministro indicó también que no entiende por qué el Mercosur, el bloque económico formado por Argentina, Brasil, Paraguay y Uruguay (con Venezuela en proceso de adhesión), pretende firmar el 20 de diciembre un acuerdo comercial con Palestina.
“Cuál es el significado especial del acuerdo entre el Mercosur y Palestina, cuando lo único que los palestinos exportan son actos de terrorismo y misiles”, se preguntó.
No obstante, recordó que su país tiene ese mismo convenio con los cuatro países por separado y con el bloque en su conjunto, y detalló que en su visita a Uruguay, el país que tiene la presidencia semestral del grupo, ha pretendido explicar a las autoridades locales su visión sobre la situación en Oriente Medio.
“Tengo la esperanza de que con mi vínculo aquí podamos tender puentes para llegar a una posición común en esto”, matizó.
Yaalon se refirió también al ataque perpetrado contra la Embajada del Reino Unido en Teherán como una demostración de que “el enemigo no es el Estado de Israel”, sino “el mundo occidental, el mundo libre”.
Además, advirtió de que Israel pretende “convencer” al régimen iraní de anular su supuesto plan armamentístico con energía nuclear, “pero si esto no es posible” realizará presiones para que los iraníes “decidan si quieren crear la bomba nuclear o existir como Estado”.
Por otra parte, sobre los comicios celebrados este año en Egipto, Marruecos y Túnez, dijo que “la democracia no empieza ni termina con elecciones”, sino “con la educación”.
“Estábamos muy alentados de ver en la plaza Tahrir de Egipto a personas que hablaban de las libertades de expresión, individuales, de las mujeres. Esos son factores democráticos pero perdieron en las elecciones”, lamentó Yaahon, quien comparó lo sucedido con la revolución iraní de 1979. EFE

Montevideo, December 6, 2011 (EFE) – Israel’s Vice-Prime Minister, Moshe Yaalon, stated today in an interview with Efe that Iran is creating, with Venezuela’s connivance, a “terrorist infrastructure” in Latin America for attempts against the United States, Israel and their allies.
“They mean to arm a terrorist infrastructure which will remain dormant, and at the right moment could attack American interests or targets in the USA,” and “Israelis, Jews, or any other country opposed to Iran’s political structure”, he stated. Yaalon, in Montevideo where he met Danilo Astori, Uruguay’s vice-president and other officials, used as an example of that hypothetical strategy the recently revealed plot to assassinate the Saudi Ambassador to the US.
He pointed out that that case, of which the US accused Iran, and which was denounced on November 18 at the UN General Assembly, is not the only one, as other past incidents show. “This type of terrorist infrastructure already acted in 1992 against the Israeli Embassy in Buenos Aires and the AMIA Jewish organization in 1994,” also in the Argentina’s capital.
According to Yaalon, the strategy is framed by Tehran’s plans to “export the Iranian revolution, first to neighboring states”, like Iraq, Afghanistan, Lebanon, or the Palestinian territories, and “later to the West.”
The Vice-Prime Minister, who in the 1990s was chief of military intelligence, explained that the information available to his country reveals that in Latin America “this type of infrastructure enrolls Muslim elements that live in the area, and is also supported by drug lords.”
“It is also backed by the diplomatic immunity that Iranian diplomats have in the region,” and “especially takes advantage of the way they are welcomed by Venezuelan president Hugo Chávez, and through that, it enters the entire continent,” he denounced.
For Yaalon, “the fact that Iranian passports do not require visas to enter Venezuela”, a country which broke relations with Israel over the Gaza situation, “opens the doors to all of Latin America.”
He said that he did not have direct evidence of links between those alleged Iranian terrorists and the Colombian FARC.
The Vice-Prime Minister also stated that he does not understand why Mercosur, the economic bloc of Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay (with Venezuela in the process of joining), aims to sign on December 20th a trade agreement with Palestine. “What is the special meaning of the accord between Mercosur and Palestine, when the only things Palestine exports are missiles and terrorist acts?”, he asked.
However, he reminded us that his country has that same agreement with each of the same countries separately and with the bloc, and explained that he has attempted to explain to Uruguayan authorities his views of the Middle East situation. “I hope that we can build bridges that could lead us to a common point of view on this”.
Yaalon also pointed out that the attack on the British Embassy in Tehran demonstrates that “the enemy is not the State of Israel,” but “the West, the free world.”
He also warned that Israel aims to “convince” the Iranian regime to cancel its proposed nuclear weapons program, “but if this is not possible,” will pressure Iranians to “decide if they want to create the nuclear bomb or exist as a State.”
Talking about this year’s elections in Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia, he said, “democracy does not start or end with elections, but with education.”
“We were very encouraged to see people talking about freedom of expression, individual rights, women’s rights, on Egypt’s Tahrir Square. Those are democratic factors, but they were lost in the elections”, Yaahon deplored, as he compared the events with the 1979 Iranian revolution. EFE

I’m writing to thank you for your upcoming visit to Cuba. It is very heartening to know that you will be visiting eleven million prisoners. After all, that whole island is a prison, and all of its inhabitants prisoners.
I write not only as a Cuban but as one of your flock and as a scholar. The professorship I hold here at Yale University – named after Yale’s first Catholic chaplain – is the chair in Catholic studies. Oddly enough, many at this very secular university think that I am your nuncio and in constant contact with you, simply because I hold the Catholic chair.
So, I am now finally doing what they think I often do, writing to you.
All of the imprisoned in Cuba need your visit, desperately. Your physical presence will do much to uplift their spirits, and give them a glimpse of the world beyond their salt-water prison walls, perhaps even a glimmer of The Kingdom of Heaven itself, especially when you celebrate the holy sacrifice of the Mass and Christ is made present among them.
You will have to meet with the tyrants, jailers, and executioners, of course. That is inevitable. Not much has changed since Our Lord said “See, I am sending you out like sheep among wolves,” The tyrants and their henchmen will probably attend Mass, as they did when your predecessor the Venerable John Paul II visited the island some years ago.
These men need you too, in their own twisted way. They hope your visit will lend them an aura of legitimacy, fatten their coffers, and fool the world into thinking that they are not tyrants after all.
Many of your predecessors have dealt with such men, under worse circumstances. We Cubans know that those will not be easy moments for you. But our prayers will accompany every step you take, and every handshake too. And we are confident that the Holy Spirit will help you deal with these wolves as Our Lord Jesus Christ advised nearly two thousand years ago, when he told his disciples to be “as cunning as serpents yet as innocent as doves.”
I have but one request: please meet with the Ladies in White while you are in Cuba. They have asked for this themselves, through your nuncio Monsignor Bruno Musaro, with whom they met a few weeks ago. Bless them with your presence, please, Most Holy Father. They are brave beyond belief; but, subjected as they are to constant physical and mental abuse, and to the constant threat of imprisonment or death, they are in dire need of your blessing.
As you well know, they are often attacked and beaten and prevented from attending church; sometimes they've even been attacked inside churches. They are living out the gospel, at a high cost, laying their lives down for their brethren. Like the Canaanite woman who cried out to Jesus, 'Lord, help me!' or the woman who touched the hem of Jesus’s robe in hope of a cure, they are reaching out, full of faith, begging against all odds. In an island where everyone has been turned into a beggar, they beg for the rarest and most precious gift of all: your presence.
And, oh, what a sight that would be for all the world to see! You and the Ladies in White together. What a jolt to the senses: an image so unexpected, it might restore sight to those blinded by hate, perhaps, or stem the flow of blood that has stained that beautiful prison island for far too long. It might even make demons flee, too.
Your power as Vicar of Christ is unique. You command the world’s attention. You serve as the world’s conscience. Your public acknowledgment of the Ladies in White could change the course of history. They pray for that; we all pray for it too, along with them. I, a beggar, driven from my homeland fifty years ago, join the bold Ladies in begging. We beg like the blind man who would not stop crying out to Jesus and yelled all the louder when told to shut up.
And we beg in the name of Jesus, hoping you will hear our voices above the din made by those who want us not to be seen or heard.

Esos hombres también lo necesitan a Ud., al modo retorcido de ellos. Ellos esperan que su visita les preste un aura de legitimidad, les traiga plata, y que engañe al mundo a creer que al fin y al cabo no son tiranos.
Muchos de sus antecesores han bregado con tales hombres, y bajo peores circunstancias. Nosotros los cubanos sabemos que para usted tales momentos no serán fáciles. Pero nuestras oraciones lo acompañarán a cada paso y a cada apretón de manos. Y tenemos la certeza que el Espíritu Santo le ayudará a portarse con estos lobos como Nuestro Señor Jesucristo nos aconsejó hace casi dos mil años atrás, cuando les dijo a sus discípulos que fueran “prudentes como serpientes y sencillos como palomas.”
Solamente tengo una cosa que rogarle: por favor, reúnase con las Damas de Blanco durante su visita a Cuba. Y, oh, ¡qué imagen sería esa para el mundo entero! El Vicario de Cristo y las Damas de Blanco juntos. Qué sacudida para los sentidos: una imagen tan inesperada, que podría restaurarle la vista a los que ciega el odio, tal vez, o que detenga el desangre que ha estado manchando la hermosa isla prisión desde hace demasiado tiempo. Hasta tal vez saldrán en fuga los demonios.
Su poder como Vicario de Cristo es único. Usted impone la atención mundial. Usted sirve como la conciencia del mundo. Su reconocimiento público de las Damas de Blanco podría cambiar el curso de la historia. Ellas rezan por ello; todos también rezamos con ellas.
