Пит Таунсенд, гитарист The Who, был студентом в колледже искусств Илинга, где брал уроки у Гюстава Метцгера. В своей автобиографии Пит отмечает, что он был «воодушевлен работой, пионера саморазрушающегося искусства» и тайно планировал разбить свою гитару, если подвернется подходящий случай. Translation - English The Destruction in Art Symposium (DIAS) was held in London in 1966, with Yoko Ono among the participants.
Pete Townshend, the guitarist for The Who, was one of Metzger’s students at Ealing Art College. In his autobiography, Townshend notes that he was “encouraged, too by the work of Gustav Metzger, the pioneer of auto-destructive art and secretly planned to smash my guitar if the moment seemed right.” This moment presented itself in 1964, and Rolling Stone considered it so important that it included it in its list of “50 Moments That Changed Rock and Roll.”
In the 1990s, Gustav Metzger created the series Historical Photographs, which was a response to major historical events and catastrophes. This series existed only during exhibitions. The artist would send detailed instructions, and curators would carry out his orders. After the exhibition was over, the work would be destroyed, and a report with photographs of their destruction would be sent to the artist. It is a completely conceptual series that does not exist in a physical form; it only existed as the artist's idea. All of the photographs from the series can be found on the Internet, and these photographs are the ones used in the exhibition; they are low quality, enlarged, and grainy. Photographs from the series cannot be fully seen.
