English to Lingala: Information for Elimasi - Pondani’s Family Group Conference Report by Bronagh Scanlon…
Source text - English Information for Elimasi - Pondani’s Family Group Conference
Report by Bronagh Scanlon…
Brief description of current situation
Blessing Abraham has three children Gibson (14) who currently lives with his father Theza Yadi. Abigail (7) and Arch-Angel (1) who are currently in foster care. Blessing is currently pregnant with triplets.
The Local Authority have a number of concerns about the care that Abigail and Arch-Angel have received over the last year and these have led to the children coming into care. It is now the court that will decide where the children will live in the future.
The Local Authority also are concerned about Blessing’s capacity to care for the new babies and we may need to think about where they will live in the future.
As part of the Local Authority plan we would also like to see what support family and friends can offer should the children be either returned to the care of their mother or if Abigail should be placed with her father. We would also like to consider if the children cannot be placed with either of their parents if there are any other family members who would like to come forward to care for Abigail and Arch-Angel.
List the issues/concerns you want the family to address. Include timescales as needed
1. There are concerns about how Blessing will be supported physically and emotionally to care for all the children when the triplets are born.
2. There is the concern that Abigail will have more responsibility in helping to care for her siblings.
3. Blessing’s capacity to offer basic care for the children on a daily basis including maintain a clean and stable home, getting Abigail to school on time each day, ensuring the children have a balanced diet every day.
4. The instability for the children and the family of moving home several times.
5. There is a concern about how Abigail will settle in if she were to live with Yadi.
Strengths within the family
Blessing has friends who have helped her out in the last few months.
Yadi has the support of family and friends
There is a strong bond between Blessing and Abigail and Arch-Angel
There is a strong bond between Yadi, Gibson and Abigail
Resources currently available and resources available to the family if required
Blessing has a case worker in Hackney housing
Abigail and Arch-Angel have a stable placement together until decisions are made about their future.
Abigail and Arch-Angel have access to their social worker while they are Children in Care.
Questions which need to be answered by the family
(These are open ended problem solving questions – not closed yes or no questions)
1. If the Abigail and Arch-Angel are returned to Blessing, what specific support you could offer on a daily / weekly basis?
2. If Abigail was to live with Yadi, what specific support you could offer on a daily weekly basis?
3. If Abigail was to live with Yadi, how could the family support contact between Arch-Angel and Blessing and the triplets?
4. If Abigail and or Arch-Angel cannot be returned to either parent are there any family members that could realistically care for one or both of the girls and / or the triplets?
5. What support could the family member count on, on a daily / weekly basis from who in the family how and when?
Bottom line (what will happen if the situation is not resolved. Be clear about eligibility for viability assessment if appropriate).
If the court decides that Abigail and Arch-Angel cannot be returned to Blessing and it also decides that Abigail should not live with Yadi then the court will consider the assessment of any family members that have put themselves forward.
If a family member comes forward there is an assessment process they would need to agree to which is in depth regarding many aspects of their life. It would only be if they were successful in this that the court would consider their request to care for any of the children.
If there are no family members suitable the Local Authority will then put forward plans for Abigail and Arch-Angel that could include long term fostering or adoption.
Once the triplets are born a decision will be made as to what will happen to where they will live in the future.

Experience
Years of experience: 17. Registered at ProZ.com: Sep 2010.
I am Simon Simao-Maya. I provide Language Interpreting and Translations since 2007. I am an expert in Lingala - English translations of documents, application forms, brochures and leaflets. I am specialised in Legal and Social matters including Child Protection Plans and more.
Being a native of Congo and with more than 12 years of experience in both written and spoken translations, I believe I am the right person for this role.
I am well established in Community Interpreting and Legal matters.
My most recent task was translation of a Child Protection Plan and a Letter of the First Core Group Meeting from English to Lingala.
My fluency in Lingala, French, Portuguese and English including my friendly qualities and professional communication skills allow me to interact effectively in various sectors.
I perform very well in meetings, courts and tribunals, internal and external contacts and can relate to diverse cultural aspects effectively.
I believe I am the ideal candidate for both interpreting and translation roles because I am confident in my language combinations. I can easily convey a message from English to Lingala and vice-versa in both written and spoken forms, and I can perfectly identify with Congolese and Angolan cultures.
Given my level of expertise in the field, my cultural knowledge of the areas, and my ability to master the Lingala language, I am confident to deliver a great job.
With my years of translation experience and my proven language faculties, I believe I have a lot to offer your organisation.
I am available for work at any time and hope to hear from you soon.
