Certified translator, holder of the prestigious Diploma in Translation of the Institute of Linguists, internationally recognized as the mark of excellence for translation into English. Member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists. Member of the Société française des traducteurs (French Society of Translators). B.A. (Hons) Theology - University of Durham UK 1984; P.G.C.E. - University of Bristol UK 1992.
I was born and brought up in England; I have now lived in France for nearly 12 years. After working in the City of London (Midland Bank, Touch Ross & Co.) I came to France where I taught English to business professionals and then returned to Britain to qualify as a secondary school teacher. I then taught English and religion in French secondary schools. I began translating in 1998.
Languages have always been one of my great passions. My mother is German, my wife is French, our children are totally bilingual... and translating is part of my daily life. I specialised in Biblical Greek and Hebrew at Durham, and have never regretted the time spent learning these languages. Languages are our ticket to a whole new world, they literally open up our minds to new forms of meaning and logic.
I mainly specialize in translating financial, legal and commercial documents. I also translate an increasing number of technical documents. I also translate medical and pharmaceutical documents: my wife, who is French but also studied medicine for a year at Bristol University in the UK, is a doctor and I therefore have a perfect advisor in medical matters - and access to medical dictionaries.
