VÍCTOR
Entonces nos vamos, ¿no?
CLARA
CLARA
A ver, ¿Un ejemplo?
VÍCTOR
Pues mira, en las ellipsis,
CLARA
CLARA
¡Mi idea de la felicidad!
VÍCTOR
Ja, ja, ja.
CLARA
VÍCTOR
Vale, no te preocupes, ¿café?
CLARA
¿No me digas que no te acuerdas?
VÍCTOR
Cortado....Dos cortados, por favor
VÍCTOR
¡Menuda sorpresa! …
CLARA
Pues yo te iba a decir que no has cambiado nada. Más tópico es esto, ¿no?
VÍCTOR
Tú, estás igual. ¡Bueno, no! El pelo te queda muy bien.
CLARA
¿Te gusta?
VÍCTOR (asintiendo).
Estás preciosa.
CLARA
Dijimos que sin chorradas.
VÍCTOR
No me lo puedo creer
CLARA
CLARA
No has cambiado nada.
VÍCTOR
Sí que he cambiado, aunque ya no sirva de nada, pero vaya si he cambiado
VÍCTOR
¿Te quedarás muchos días?
CLARA
CLARA
Y no me lo pediste.
VÍCTOR
¿Te hubieras quedado?
CLARA
Puedes estar seguro

LAST TRAIN TO TAHITI

víctor
let’s go then ?
CLARA
No, you’ll drown
víctor
Who fucking cares? I want to go and I want to go by train and that’s that. Or ….and that’s final.
CLARA
Yes, going by train is fine but...
víctor
But what? We ‘re taking the train.
CLARA
Weren’t you taught at kindergarden that you can’t get on an island by train?
víctor
At kindergarden I was only taught to look at the girls’ knickers.
CLARA
Autodidact since the pram...
víctor
Not really. They were the dirty girls who perverted me.
CLARA
At the kinder, you say
víctor
Yes, at the kinder. What’s wrong with you? Always weighing my words!. That guy from the film was right: if you could just find someone who can fly...
CLARA
You’re really smart love, can’t you talk without reciting a sentence from a film ?
víctor
No, what’s wrong with that? Others are crazy about football, aren’t they?. Cinema... it has the best of life. If life were as cinema, it’d be great!
CLARA
Give me an example
víctor
Look at the ellipsis
clara
Oh God, ellipsis, how could I forget them?
víctor
Could you imagine life without down times? Think that all your moments were to be transcendental, that you were doing things for first time, without routines and when you were, pow! ellipsis...
clara
Oh!, ok. I thought that this moment was a down time. Don’t you realise that the only real important thing is down time, you fool?
víctor
¡Touche!
No, wait, give me a little longer
clara
I can’t. I must build my future, mate
víctor
Ok then . We leave... by train... and don’t take dad’s credit cards.
CLARA
You’re so funny. Don’t you know, I’ ll think that of with you til the end of the world...
víctor
No need to go too far.....I just retire to the South Seas, and if we’re lucky we’ll be out of money to come back
CLARA
My idea of happiness!
víctor
Ja, ja, ja.
CLARA
You’re really cute. Now say that you love me and I’ll marry you
víctor
Come on! Hurry up! I bet they look here as I count til three
víctor
One... two... three
clara
You’ve failed!
víctor
What!. You say I failed?
CLARA
You’re an asshole but I love you
VÍCTOR
You’ve forgotten something! The book I told you about. Take it
CLARA
“The truce”. ....I’m starting it tonight
vÍctor
Wait... a minute!
vÍctor
I’m here.
clara
Right. By the way, where are you going?
vÍctor
With you
victor
Let’s have a race.... The first one who gets to the end of the footbridge...wait, a moustache, we need a moustache
victor
Ready? Steady? Go!!
CHICA
. Thanks. I’m starting it tonight
Chico
Don’t be like that.. we’ve talked about this so many times. I don’t want engagements, I dont want anyone depending on me... don’t ask me again . Come on, the train is about to leave. It’s only a month. When you come back we’ll carry on talking about this….
Chica
I might not want to come back and carry on talking in a month’s time..
CLARA
I just have a minute. They’re about to arrive
VÍCTOR
Ok, don’t worry. Coffee?
CLARA
Don’t say you don’t remember
VÍCTOR
Two caffe lattes, please.
VÍCTOR
What a surprise!. This is really a topical, isn’t it?
CLARA
I was about to say that you haven’t changed at all. This is a bigger topical, isn’t it?
VÍCTOR
You’re the same. Well, not really. This new hair do suits you
CLARA
Do you like it?
VÍCTOR (asintiendo).
You’re beautiful
CLARA
We said no jives
VÍCTOR
I can’t believe it
CLARA
How did you always use to say?
VÍCTOR
There is nothing I like more than Benedetti and your tits
CLARA
And not necessarily in that order
VÍCTOR
We had great times, didn’t we?
VÍCTOR
And, how are you doing?
CLARA
Like everyone, I guess. It was you who didn’t believe in happiness, wasn’t it ? Well, I have a good life, I have all I’ve ever wanted. I can’t complain
clara
And you... is there someone in your life? I guess not, cause you’re the only man I know that’s brave enough to be alone
VÍCTOR
Not brave... but stubborn. You know about my ellipsis theory, woman after woman trying that each day is new. No, nobody in my life. I live alone, at the same place.
VÍCTOR, CLARA (al unísono).
I hate removals.
CLARA
You haven’t changed at all
vÍctor
. Yes, I have though it’s no use..... but yes, I do have changed
VÍCTOR
Will you stay for many days?
CLARA
No. We’ve been here almost the whole vacation. We’re leaving tomorrow..... by train just the way you like it.
Anyway, this time I wouldn’t allow you to go to the station
VÍCTOR
In a script I would now say that I still think of that day.
CLARA
Yeah, and in the script I would say that I do too. Then another ellipsis and we end in bed. But no, we won’t end up in bed. But this doesn’t mean that I don’t think of that day.
VÍCTOR
And?
cLARA
And nothing. First I made efforts to forget it and it was worse... and you? Do you regret it?
VÍCTOR
Every morning for the past ten years. You were stronger. You took a decision and didn’t doubt it. Since kindergarden you have been at the mercy of women.
CLARA
This is your memory. In mine you took the decision and I wasn’t sure about leaving. I didn’t know what I would have said if you had asked me to stay.
VÍCTOR
And I didn’t.
CLARA
You didn’t
VÍCTOR
Would you have stayed?
CLARA
You can be sure of that.
VÍCTOR
. I should have caught up with your train. And given you a kiss just like in the movies, with violins playing around us, the train about to depart, and everybody looking at us... an ellipsis and us in a nice house with a large family.
CLARA(El Camarero llega con los cafés).
Thanks
VÍCTOR
I was about to board the train
CLARA
And I was going to get off it.
VÍCTOR
The following day I bought a ticket
CLARA
But you only bought it
VÍCTOR
I thought I had missed my chance.
CLARA
. Yes, and years passed and bla, bla, bla. You haven’t really changed. You always think that it’s better that everything can be different, better, but you never try it, no, cause you can fail and the magic will break. We must believe the trick and that’s all, keeping the feeling that happiness is somewhere.... on Tahiti beaches, for example, but never go there just in case you get dissapointed... this way is more bearable.
VÍCTOR
Fuck, touché
CLARA
It’s Claudia, my daughter... I must go
vÍctor
Maybe we could meet again, have a coffee... I don’t know, maybe think about saying something so definitive that makes you cry and then you’ll escape with me... to Tahiti.
CLARA
this would be a first, it would make a change, yes... but I don’t want to change. Now I prefer comfort to ellipsis. As you say, second chances are rare, and it’s better like that, cause they are dangerous. You might be the man in the suit and that wouldn’t be so good to remember.
clara
Growing up is not so bad. Take care.
vÍctor
I bet you that she’ll look at me as soon as I count till three.... one,... two,... two and a half.... look at me, look at me...
