Arabic to English: ليلة 26 ديسمبر2007 General field: Art/Literary Detailed field: Journalism

Translation - English The struggle of the Bedouins in Sinai to demand their rights started on 25 April 2007, with a continuous series of sit-ins, demonstrations, and conferences. In this context, the Bedouins agreed to a protest on 1 January 2008.
I wrote a report about the protest on my blog and announced my intention to participate in it. On the night of 26 December 2007, less than six days before the date of the protest, Ranad had a high temperature, and my wife and I were making cold water dressings for her. We have always tried to use traditional methods of treatment and avoid anything chemical as much as possible.

Bio
I am a freelance translator specialising in Arabic to English translation with English as my mother tongue.
Qualifications: I have a First Class BA in Arabic and Classical Literature and a Masters with Merit in Applied Translations Studies both from the University of Leeds. My Masters dissertation specialised in the translation of literary and socio-political texts. I have also gained knowledge and understanding of HTML code which I have demonstrated in my encoding of this section of the page.
Experience: I have experience of using a wide range of CAT tools to translate a variety of file types such as Microsoft Office files (.doc, .ppt), websites, and for localising software.
Cultural Knowledge and Understanding: I have developed an understanding of cultural differences from having lived in Cairo, Egypt, as well as from studying issues in modern Middle Eastern politics. I also come from a multicultural background and thus have grown up with an awareness of cultural aspects of both the Middle East and the West.
CAT tools: I have experience and training in Wordfast Classic and Plus Tools add-ins, SDL Trados (Level 1 certified), STAR Transit NXT, Passolo, and DVX. I currently operate DVX.
Portfolio: My portfolio includes translations for Amnesty International's 2010 and 2011 Letter Writing Marathon campaigns, market research questionnaire responses, and my dissertation texts; a 4,000 word translation of a chapter from a sociopolitical text on the history, rise, and impact of social and political movements in Egypt and a chapter from an Egyptian short story.
