Technical and marketing translation

I had the chance to graduate from the École Normale Supérieure, probably the most selective French school and a school in which multidisciplinarity was not only accepted, but encouraged. This is how I ended up with a Master in Mathematics and Computer Science (more specifically in logic), after having taken a broad range of fascinating subjects: languages of course (English, Russian, ancient Hebrew) but also medieval history, quantum physics, chinese medical literature, statistics, theological studies and many more. I had started a PhD in Computer Science at the École Polytechnique in an international team when I noticed I was much more enthusiastic about the language component of what I was doing (I had to write my papers in English as well as in French, I translated or interpreted a lot for my fellow students and researchers) than about research itself. I then realized that freelance translating would actually be a perfect fit for me. I guess I am a balanced blend of science and humanities.

I guess one of the best touchstone for my translation and linguistic skills was when I was hired by Clare College, at the University of Cambridge, as a French lectrice for one year. My responsibilities included tutoring students in translation, French language and French literature, guiding them through extremely different texts, from Old French to Amélie Nothomb and Paul Auster.

I now translate for several agencies such as Global Lingo, DAT France, Aberdeen, Alphabit and Wessex Translations. You can have a look at the Projects section to see some examples of my recent jobs. My clients have always been absolutely satisfied with my work. I am also the end reviewer for Blurb, an auto-editing and photo bookmaking company. I review, translate or transcreate all their online or marketing content in French, from banners to emails, including their website and their softwares. But I also love to diversify and take a step back from the translation process, as I did when I performed quality checks or when I was in charge of testing and recruiting candidates as a Senior Translator for Gengo. Finally, I provide subtitling services, as well as transcription, for Aberdeen Captioning.

I have acquired a good experience in marketing translation and I can therefore localize your campaigns, brochures, banners or websites in a way that will win you customers and improve your referencing.

My interests are particularly eclectic, but I like to be thorough and I always endeavor to avoid superficiality. I have been therefore able to develop a wide variety of specialisms in many different fields: IT (hardware, software, social media, online marketing…), crafts (binding, needlework, framing), tourism (cooking, hotels and restaurants), science (mechanics, electronics, engineering, automotive, animal health, medical devices…), religions, fashion and beauty, education, and I take advantage of the new technologies to find resources and tools to keep learning. My passion for reading (books and ebooks) is also very helpful, both to nurture my linguistic skills but also to discover new things.

I have excellent adaptation skills, and I pay close attention to the specific requirements of every translation. I am a perfectionist and I take pride in writing perfectly idiomatic translations. I also love to do transcreations and I always go the extra mile for my clients. For example if I notice a mistake in the source text or if I foresee some DTP problems with the length of my translation, I would systematically make suggestions to ensure your end document is absolutely flawless.

Here are some of the technical fields in which I have an extensive knowledge:
IT (more than 150,000 words translated)
Electronics (more than 100,000 words translated)
Mechanics Automotive (3,500 words)
Medical devices (63,000 words translated or proofread)

and some of the other fields in which I specialize:
Tourism (food and wine, travel, hotels, culture...), more than 54,000 words translated
Marketing (internal and external communication)
Religion: two years of studies in Theology at the University of Strasbourg, subtitles for an American TV Show about religion

As to subtitles, I have already transcripted, translated and subtitled about 230 minutes of interviews about eye surgery and I am subtitling Ordinary, a TV show.
