CHARTER
GOAL
The members of IDAY participate in the mobilisation of civil society of their country in order to achieve universal quality basic education for all the African youth. They engage in collective advocacy with the view to convincing their government and all stakeholders to take their responsibilities so as to effectively enforce this right.
IDAY understands basic education as including at least the following:
(1) pre-school initiation,
(2) a complete cycle of official primary education,
(3) vocational literacy training for the youngsters (15-24) who did not have access to or did not complete a full primary cycle.
Hence, IDAY does not only refer to the second Millennium Development Goal (MDG 2), but also to the six objectives of the Dakar Framework for Action for Education For All (2000).
IDAY also acknowledges that it is impossible to aim at quality basic education without seeking to tackle all obstacles that stand in the way, be they of cultural, economic, and sanitary or of any other nature.
WHY?
African youth is without doubt the group of persons in the world whose fundamental rights are most massively disregarded and violated. About 30 million of African children aged between 6 and 12 have still today no access to a full cycle of primary education. They represent 40% of all children of this age group in the world who are deprived of this right.
Africa also counts 45 million illiterate African youngsters aged 15 to 24. Contrary to the current trend on other continents, their number is increasing in Africa.
Furthermore, these statistics only partly reflect the situation of millions of vulnerable children and youth: child soldiers, child domestic servants, so-called “witch” children, enslaved or victims of child trafficking, schoolgirls forcibly subjected to early marriage, children deprived of liberty, nomadic children and children from ethnic minority groups, etc.
It is generally admitted that without new and exceptional measures, Africa will once more miss out on the MDG 2.
Yet, helping the African youth obtain that their rights be respected is not only a matter of safeguarding their human dignity, but also a key stake to ensure equitable and sustainable development in Africa as well in Europe.
IDAY members state that:
1. Education is the very basis of economic development and of a democratic environment enabling peace and the well-being of the people. Education is also an essential condition of sustainable improvement of the general economic and health conditions of the population;
2. All parents consider educating their children as their first priority;
3. Any issue that has an impact on access to, completion and quality of education deserves to be taken into account in the framework of the goals of quality basic education for all.
4. Only a constructive dialogue between government authorities and African civil society to improve the education system will significantly improve trust between these partners and allow achieving the right to quality basic education for all Africa in a sustainable manner. As recommended by the Global Campaign for Education, Human Rights campaigns and advocacy towards governments are to be preferred to direct service delivery, which undermines the latter’s responsibility.
5. The active participation of civil society in a country’s strategic decisions is an essential condition to improve governance and to achieve sustainable development. Only if African civil society decides to take its future in its own hands will the continent sustain a balanced development process.
6. Education and popular participation are essential for an efficient utilisation of foreign aid. Without a massive mobilisation of the African and European civil societies involved in education projects and its youth, foreign aid in general, and humanitarian aid, including for health in particular, will remain bottomless pits.
7. Foreign aid helps alleviating destitution and inhuman living conditions in specific situations and places. As such it is necessary and ought to be sustained, although in a different way. It is delusional to think that aid under its present form will solve Africa’s education challenges. Not to mention that such a system does not contribute to endogenous development and maintains too often its beneficiaries into external dependency.
8. Achieving the right to basic education for all in Africa is a strategic challenge for the whole of humanity, including for the Europeans considering their particular geographical, historical and economic ties with its neighbouring continent. The future wellbeing of not only the African but also the European youth is here at stake.
HOW?
Organise and/or take part in collective advocacy activities of local civil society organisations targeting local, national, regional and international authorities. In each country, the issues raised focus on the specific obstacles to achieving the MDG 2, as well as on demands and possible solutions.
In particular, commemorate each year and together the International Day of the African Child around June 16 in Europe as well as in Africa. The aim is building up massive media impact and encouraging European and African authorities to increase the means dedicated to achieving quality basic education for all by 2015.
Foster and participate in close concertation with the local or national authorities in each country, with a view to contributing to good governance. IDAY endeavours to lay stress on the need for African countries to increase their basic education budgets and to see to it that they are spent properly.
Engage the donors and the international cooperation community into more efficient actions in support to local civil society and into giving priority to programmes focused on basic education.
Carry out public awareness activities: in Europe, in order to inform on the deficit of education in Africa, to foster solidarity and citizen mobilisation in favour of aid practices that are more efficient and respectful of the Africans’ right to develop themselves; in Africa, in order to highlight the importance of education and generate democratic mobilisation in favour of the right to education for all.
In the framework of these activities, the Message of Yaguine and Fodé (see annex) – two Guinean teenagers who were found dead in the landing gear of a plane in Brussels on August 2, 1999 – ought to be read in commemoration of all young Africans who sacrifice themselves so that the African and European leaders take all required measures to safeguard their fundamental rights, including their right to education.
WHEN?
Collective advocacy activities are conducted throughout the year in order to maximise their impact. All opportunities for the message and the propositions of the network’s members to be heard ought to be seized. Around June 16, members are to celebrate the International Day of the African Child on education-related issues. This is a landmark event for the network.
WHO?
IDAY is a network of civil society organisations. It is open to any organisation or person agreeing with its objectives and principles and willing to support them. The coalitions are the effective members of IDAY-International, e.g. the members of IDAY’s General Assembly.
To become a member of an IDAY coalition, one must:
• Be a registered civil society organisation involved in the implementation of education projects in Africa, human rights protection – in particular with respects to the right to quality basic education – or empowerment of African civil society.
• Be an individual who is committed to improve basic education in Africa and willing to involve with IDAY to support the network and its members’ actions.
BECOMING A MEMBER OF IDAY IMPLIES:
• Accepting to operate in a network with all the other organisations of one’s country involved in the sector of education in Sub-Saharan Africa to the extent that they accept the IDAY-Charter in its form and spirit;
• Respecting the statutes and internal regulation of IDAY-International
• Promoting the implementation of objectives of the Dakar Framework and/or the alphabetisation of youngsters, respecting common elements or themes of IDAY celebrations;
• Seeking to transcend the daily issues by impressing upon the African and European authorities the rights of the African youth to receive basic education. With this purpose in mind, local and European authorities will be invited to IDAY commemorations.
• Contributing to the common and collective interest, in particular by co-operating with the other networks of the civil society;
• Applying the IDAY logo to all documents and electronic publications and abstain from using IDAY documents (texts, photos, logo) for commercial or profit seeking purposes.
Only the organisations respecting these rules will be allowed to claim belonging to IDAY and use its logo.
ADMINISTRATION
IDAY is an official international non-profit seeking association since January 2008 with a permanent secretariat. IDAY-International coordinates the network and facilitates collaboration among IDAY national coalitions and members. The secretariat also coordinates the various national activities with the aim to maximise their media and political impact.
At national level, civil society organisations which are members of IDAY determine on their own the organisational structure and legal status of their coalition.
REGISTRATION
To register with IDAY, the official representative of the candidate organisation is required to initial each page of the Charter and sign the last page. The signature must be preceded by the words “Read and approved” and followed by the organisation’s complete contact details.
• If the organisation is from/in a country where an IDAY coalition already exists, the document must registered with this coalition in compliance with its own rules and procedures.
• Organisation from countries where no IDAY coalition exists and multinational organisations may become members provided that they form a coalition comprising of a minimum number of organisations, as provided for in IDAY-International’s internal regulations. This coalition then registers directly with IDAY-International in accordance with the conditions established in the internal regulations.
Only the organisations registered with an IDAY coalition or with IDAY-International are considered IDAY members.
IDAY seeks to mobilise all interested parties in Africa and in Europe to achieve these objectives. The network does not discriminate on the basis of language, political, national, tribal, or religious affiliation. IDAY is and shall remain strictly neutral politically and religiously.

« Excellencies, members and responsible authorities of Europe,
We have the honour and pleasure of writing you this letter to tell you about the purpose of our journey and the sufferings, which we, the children and young people of Africa, experience.
But first may we offer you our most exquisite, adorable and respectful greetings in life. To that effect, be our support and our help. For us in Africa, you are the ones to whom we must turn for help. We beg you to listen to us, for the love of your continent, for the feeling that you have for your people and above all for the attachment and love that you feel for your children, whom you love for live; and also for the love and graciousness of our creator God Almighty, who gave you all the good experiences, wealth and power to develop and organise your continent to be the most beautiful and admirable of them all.
Esteemed members and leaders of Europe, we in Africa appeal to your solidarity and your kidness. Help us, we are suffering terribly in Africa, we have problems and there are gaps in children’s rights.
Among the problems we face are war, disease and malnutrition. As for children’s rights, in Africa and especially in Guinea we have too many schools but not enough education and teaching – except in private schools where you can get a good education and good teaching, but only at great cost. But our parents are poor and they have to feed us. Furthemore, we have no sports schools where we can play soccer, basketball, or tennis.
This is why we, the children and young people in Africa, ask you to embark on a large-scale, efficient organisation for Africa so that our countries can develop.
Hence, if you see that we risk our lives and sacrifice ourselves, it is because there is too much suffering in Africa and because we need you to fight against poverty and to end war there. Nevertheless, we want to study and ask you to help us study to become like you, in Africa.
Finally, we beg you to forgive us for daring to write this letter to you, the great persons to whom we owe respect. Please realise that we have no one else to turn to in order to show how weak we in Africa are.

This is the text of the letter found on the body of Yaguine in an envelope tugged under his shirt. The bodies of these two Guinean youngsters of 14 and 15 years old were found in the landing gear of a plane coming from Conakry, on August 2nd, 1999, at Brussels airport.
The authenticity of the letter was confirmed by the discovery
of the draft of the letter in one of Yaguine’s schoolbooks.

Wanachama wa IDAY wanashiriki kuhamasisha mashirika ya kijamii katika nchi yao ili kufanikisha elimu ya msingi ya dunia kwa vijana katika bara Afrika. Wanashiriki katika utetezi wa pamoja ili kushawishi serikali yao na washika dau wote kutekeleza majukumu yao ili haki hii ipatikane.
IDAY inaelewa kuwa elimu ya msingi inahusiana na angalau
(1). masomo ya awali kabla ya shule
(2) msururu kamili wa masomo rasmi ya elimu ya msingi
(3) Elimu ya ufundi kwa vijana wa umri (15-24) ambao hawakupata au hawakumaliza msururu kamili wa elimu ya msingi.
Kwa hivyo IDAY, haizingatii tu Duru ya pili ya Malengo ya Maendeleo ya Milenia (MDG 2) bali pia Malengo ya mufumo wa Dakar wa hatua ya Elimu kwa wote (2000)
IDAY pia inakubali kwamba haiwezekani kufikia lengo la elimu ya msingi kabla ya kutatua vikwazo vinavyowakabili view vya kitamaduni, kiuchumi na vya kiusafi au matatizo ya aina yeyote.
KWANINI?
Bila shaka vijana katika bara la Afrika ni kundi duniani ambalo haki zake zimedhulumiwa. Takriban watoto milioni thalathini (30) ya watoto wa kiafrika baina ya miaka 6 na 12 hadi leo hawana nafasi ya kupata elimu kamili ya msingi. Wanawakilisha asilimia 40 ya watoto wote wenye umri huu duniani ambao wamenyimwa haki hii. Bara la Afrika pia linao vijana milioni 45 walio na umri wa 15 na 24 ambao hawajui kusoma na kuandika. Kinyume na bara zingine, idadi hii inaongezeka Afrika
Zaidi ya hayo, takwimu hizi zinaashiria kwa kiasi kichache hali mbaya ya mamilioni ya watoto na vijana wanaoishi hatarini kama vile: watoto katika jeshi, watoto wanaofanya kazi kwa manyumba, watoto ambao kwa kawaida wanaitwa wachawi, watoto waliochukuliwa kama watu au wahasiriwa wa walaguzi wa watoto, wasichana wanaolazimishwa kuolewa mapema, watoto walionyanganywa uhuru, watoto wa kuhamahama, na watoto wanaotoka kwenye jamii za walio wachache na kadhalika.
Inakubalika na wengi kwamba bila ya mikakati mipya na ya kufana, Afrika kwa mara nyingine itakosa kufikia malengo ya MDG 2
Ilihali kusaidia vijana katika bara Afrika sio tu kuona kwamba haki zao zinahifadhiwa bali pia ni kulinda heshima ya kibinadamu na ni njia ya kuhakikisha usawa na maendeleo ya kudumu katika Afrika na Ulaya
wanachama wa IDAY wanatangaza kwamba:
1. Elimu ni chanzo cha maendeleo ya kiuchumi na ya mazingira ya kidemokrasia kwa kuwezesha amani na maisha bora kwa watu. Elimu pia ni kitengo muhimu kwa uboreshaji wa kudumu wa uchumi na afya kwa watu;
2. Wazazi wote wazingatie kuelimisha watoto wao kama kipao mbele
3. Kila jambo ambalo lina athari katika kufikia, kukamilisha elimu bora linafaa kuwekwa maanani kwenye mfumo wa malengo ya elimu ya msingi kwa wote.
4. Mjadala wa kujenga baina ya mamlaka ya serikali na vyama vya kijamii katika Afrika kuboresha mfumo wa elimu utaimarisha imani kati ya washirika hawa na kufanikisha kufikia haki ya elimu bora katika bara Afrika kupitia njia ya kudumu. Kama vile ilipendekezwa na Kampeni yakimataifa ya Elimu, kampeni za haki za Kibinadamu, na utetezi kwa serikali ni bora kuliko kufanya mambo moja kwa moja ambayo hudhoofisha serikali.
5. Ushiriki kikamilifu wa jamii za kiraia katika mikakati ya maamuzi ya nchi ni muhimu katika kuboresha utawala na kufanikisha maendeleo ya kudumu. Ni pindi tu jamii za kiraia katika Afrika zitachukua uamuzi wa kushughulikia maisha ya siku zijazo ndio bara hili litapata usawa katika maendeleo ya kudumu.
6. Elimu na ushirikiano wa raia ni muhimu katika utumizi mzuri wa misaada ya kigeni. Bila ya kuhamasisha jamii za kiraia za bara Afrika na Ulaya ambazo zinahusika na maswala ya elimu na vijana wake, misaada za kigeni kwa kijumla na usaidizi wa kibinadamu hasa ikiwemo afya hazitakuwa na faida yeyote.
7. Misaada za kigeni zinasaaidia kupunguza umasikini na hali mbaya ya maisha katika hali mbali mbali na pahali maalumu. Kwa hivyo ni muhimu kutunzwa lakini kwa njia tofauti. Ni fikra potovu kudhania kwamba misaada kama vile inatumika sasa itataua matatizo ya elimu. Ni pia muhimu kutaja kwamba njia hii haisaidii katika maendeleo ya kudumu na hufanya wanaopata msaada huo kuwa wenye kutegemea watu wengine.
8. . Ili kufikia lengo la elimu ya msingi kwa wote katika bara la Afrika, ni changamoto kwa kila mtu wakiwemo watu wa bara la Ulaya ikitiliwa maanani sehemu, mawasiliano ya kihistoria na kiuchumi ya bara jirani. Mustakbali utakuwa si wa vijana wa bara Afrika peke yake bali na wa Ulaya pia.
VIPI?
Kuandaa au kushiriki katika shughuli za jamii za kiraia ambazo zinalenga utawala wa mitaa, kitaifa, mikanda na kimataifa. Katika kila nchi, masuala yaliyojadiliwa yanahusunchangamoto zinazokabili kufanikisha malenge ya MDG 2 pamoja na matakwa na pia suluhisho zake.
Hususan kila mwaka kuadhimisha kwa pamoja siku ya Kijana wa KiAfrika tarehe 16 Juni bara la Ulaya na Afrika. Lengo ni kuweka athari kubwa kwenye vyombo vya habari na kuhamasisha utawala wa Ulaya na Afrika kuzidisha viwango vifaavyo ili kufanikisha elimu ya msingi kwa wote ifikapo mwaka 2015.
Kuendeleza na kushiriki kwa kushauriana na utawala wa mitaani na kitaifa katika kila nchi kwa lengo la kujenga utawala mzuri. IDAY inafanya juhudi ya umuhimu wa nchi za kiafrika kuongeza bajeti ya elimu ya msingi na kuhakikisha kwamba pesa zimetumiwa ipasavyo.
Kuhusisha wafadhili na jamii ya kimataifa kwenye vitendo vya ufanisi kwa kusaidia jamii za kiraia na kuvipa kipao mbele mipango inayohusu elimu ya msingi.
Kutekeleza vitendo vya kuhamasisha umma: katika bara Ulaya, ili kufahamisha ukosefu wa elimu barani Afrika, kuendeleza umoja na kuhamasisha raia kwenye nyendo za misaada ambazo zina manufaa na zinazowapa heshima ya waafirka kujiendeleza wenyewe. Hali kadhalika kuhamasisha katika bara la Afrika kuonyesha umuhimu wa elimu na kufanya uhamasishaji wa kidemokrasia kwa kufadhilisha elimu kwa wote.
Katika mfumo wa mikakati hizi, ujumbe wa Yaguine na Fode (Tizama kiambatanisho) vijana wa kutoka nchini Guinea waliopatika wamefariki kwenye zana ya kutua kwenye ndege huko Brussel mnamao Agosti 2, 1999, inafaa kusomwa ili kuadhimisha vijana wakiafrika ambao hujitolea ili viongozi wa Afrika na Ulaya wachukue hatua za kuimarisha haki za kimsingi, ikiwemo haki yao ya elimu.
LINI?
Mikakati za Utetezi wa pamoja hufanywa kwenye mwaka mzima ili kuwa na athari kubwa. Kila fursa ya ujumbe na mapendekezo ya wanachama kwenye mtandao inafaa kukumbatiwa. Mnamo Juni, 16, wanachama watasherehekea siku ya Kimataifa ya Watoto wa Afrika kwa masuala yanayohusu elimu. Hii ni hatua ya kihistoria kwenye mtandao huu.
NANI?
IDAY ni mtandao wa mashirika ya jamii za kiraia. Ni wazi kwa shirika lolote au mtu yeyote anayekubaliana na malengo na kanuni na kuziunga mkono. Miungano ndio wanachama wa IDAY kimataifa kwa mfano wanachama wa Baraza Kuu wa IDAY.
Ili kuwa mwanachama wa muungano wa IDAY, yafaa kuwa:
• Shirika la jamii ya kiraia lililosajiliwa na linahusika na utekelezaji wa mipango ya elimu barani Afrika, kuhifadhi haki za kibinadamu- au uwezeshaji wa jamii ya kiraia ya Afrika.
• . Awe ni mtu aliyejitolea kuboresha elimu ya msingi katika Afrika na awe tayari kuhusisha IDAY kusaidia mtandao na wanachama wake
KUWA MWANACHAMA WA IDAY INAMAANISHA:
• kukubali kufanya kazi kwenye mtandao pamoja na mashirika mengine kwenye nchi yake na kujihusisha na sekta ya elimu katika kanda ya Afrika kusini ya Sahara kwa kiwango cha kukubaliana na Mkataba wa IDAY katika mfumo wake na hali;
• Kuheshimu sheria na kanuni za ndani ya IDAY Kimataifa
• Kuhimiza utekelezaji wa malengo ya mfumo wa Dakar na / au kufundisha watoto kusoma na kuandika, kuheshimu vipengele vya pamoja au kuadhimisha sherehe za IDAY
• Kutafuta kukabiliana na changamoto kwa kuhimiza viongozi wa Afrika na Ulaya haki za vijana kupata elimu ya msingi. Kupitia dhamira hii, utawala wa kindani na Ulaya utaalikwa kwenye sherehe za IDAY
• Kuchangia kwa maslahi ya pamoja, hasa kushirikiana na mitandao mingine kwenye jamii za kiraia.
• Kutumia alama ya IDAY kwenye nyaraka au machapisho ya kielektroniki na kutotumia nyaraka za IDAY ( maandishi, picha au alama) kwa manufaa ya kibiashara
Mashirika ambayo yataheshimu sheria hizi ndiyo yataruhusiwa kuwa wanachama wa IDAY na kutumia alama (logo) yake.
USIMAMIZI
IDAY ni chama rasmi cha kimataifa kisichokuwa cha kifaida kilichoanzishwa Januari 2008 kikiwa na sekretarieti ya kudumu. IDAY kimataifa inaratibu mtandao na kurahisisha ushirikiano baina ya muungano wa kitaifa wa IDAY na wanachama wake. Sekretarieti hii pia huratibu shughuli za kitaifa kwa lengo la kupata athari kubwa kwenye vyombo ya habari ni kwneye siasa.
Katika ngazi ya kitaifa, mashirika ya jamii za kiraia ambayo ni wananchama wa IDAY huamua wenyewe muundo wa uongozi na hadhi ya kisheria ya muungano wao.
KUJIANDIKISHA
Kujiandikisha na IDAY, mwakilishi rasmi wa shirika la mgombeaji, anafaa kusoma kutoka mwanzo na kutia sahihi kwneye ukurasa wa mwisho. Sahihi hiyo lazima itanguliwe na maneno “nimesoma na kudhibitisha” na ikifuatiliwa na maelezo ya mawasiliano ya shirika.
• Kama shirika linatoka kwenye taifa ambalo muungano wa IDAY tayari upo, hati lazima isajiliwe na muungano kulingana na sheria na kanuni zake
• Shirika ambalo linatoka kwenye taifa ambalo hakuna muungano wa IDAY na mashirika ya kimataifa, yanaweza kuwa wanachama kwa sharti kwamba waunde muungano unaohusu idadi ya kiwango cha chini cha mashirika, kama vile imependekezwa kwenye sheria za ndani za IDAY kimataifa. Kisha muungano unasajili moja kwa moja na IDAY Kimataifa kulingana na sheria za ndani
Ni mashirika ambayo yamejisajili na muungano wa IDAY au IDAY- Kimataifa ndio yanachukuliwa kama wanachama
. IDAY inatafuta kuhamasisha wahusika wote katika bara Afrika na Ulaya ili kufanikisha malengo haya. Mtandao huu haubagui lugha, siasa, taifa, kabila wala mrengo wa dini. IDAY ni na itabaki bila mapendeleo ya ya siasa au dini

Tunayoheshima na furaha ya kuwaandikia barua hii kuhusu lengo la safari yetu na mateso, ambayo sisi watoto na vijana wa Afrika tunapata.

Tunawaomba mtusikize, kwa upendo wa bara lenu, kwa hisia ambazo mnazo kwa kwa watu wetu, na juu ya hiyo, kwa mapenzi ambayo mnayo kwa watoto wenu, ambao kwa ajili yao mnaishi; na pia kwa mapenzi ya muumba wetu Mwenyezi Mungu, ambaye amewapa mambo yote mazuri, utajiri, na uwezo wa kujenga na kupanga bara lenu kuwa lenye kupendeza kwa zote.
Wanachama watukufu na viongozi wa Ulaya, Sisi katika Afrika tunawasihi mshikamano na ukarimu wenu. Tusaidieni, tunaumia vibaya Afrika, tunayo matatizo na kuna mapengo kwa haki za watoto.
Miongoni mwa matatizo tunayoyakumba ni vita, ugonjwa na ukosefu wa chakula. Kwa upande wa haki za watoto, Afrika na hasa Guinea tunazo shule nyingi lakini hakuna elimu ya kutosha na mafundisho – isipokuwa kwenye shule za kibinafsi ambapo unaweza kupata masomo bora lakini kwa gharama ya juu. Lakini wazazi wetu ni maskini na ni lazima watulishe. Zaidi ya hiyo, hatuna shule za michezo ambapo tunaweza cheza soka, mpira wa vikapu au tenisi.
Hii ndio maana sisi watoto na vijana wa Afrika, tunawaomba mpangilio wa kiasi kikubwa kwenye bara Afrika ili nchi zetu ziweze kustawi.
.Kwa hivyo mkiona tunahatarisha maisha yetu na kujitolea, ni kwa sababu, tunapitia mateso mengi Afrika na kwa sababu tunawahitaji kupigana dhidi ya umasikini na kumaliza vita. Hata hivyo, tunataka kusoma, na tunaomba msaada wenu tusome ilu tuwe kama nyinyi katika Afrika.

Introduction
Occasionally a person faces various physical and spiritual sorrows and troubles in the world. Amongst these are feelings so intense that they cannot be compared with any other physical pain. This feeling that causes such great distress in the human soul is a feeling called "regret."
There are two completely different forms of regret, however. The regret felt by people of faith and the regret that non-believers experience. These two feelings are extremely different from one another.
Believers are the people who have an absolute faith in the fact that events take place by Allah's Will, and whatever befalls them does so by Allah's Will. This explains their all-important distinctive attribute of putting their unyielding trust in Allah, at good times, in trouble or when they make a mistake. The Prophet Muhammad (saas) pointed out the strong character of the believer with a comparison in the hadith below: The similitude of a believer is that of a standing crop in a field which is shaken by wind and then it comes to its original position but it stands at its roots. (Muslim)
Upon making a mistake, a believer immediately repents with sincerity and hopes for Allah's forgiveness. As a result, he does not suffer from a distressful and long-lived feeling of regret. The regret felt by believers urges them to ask for repentance, to purify themselves and prevents them from repeating this error. It helps them rectify their errors and prevents them from plunging into a distressful and pessimistic mood. Moreover, this regret does not reduce their enthusiasm, devotion, or religious zeal nor does it drag them downward into a spiral of apprehension and depression.
Regret felt by unbelievers, on the other hand, is very distressing and long-lasting, as they do not put their trust in Allah when they encounter a difficulty or commit a transgression. Throughout their lives, they often use phrases like "I wish I had not done this..." "I wish I had never said this...," and so on.
More importantly, they are subject to a much greater regret in the Hereafter. Those who lived a life apart from the religion (deen) in this world will regret every misguided moment of their lives. They were warned before and invited to the straight path. They had enough time to contemplate and embrace the right way. Yet they did not listen when they were warned, ignoring the Hereafter as if they would never die. Then in the Hereafter, they will have no possibility to get back to this world and correct their errors. In the Qur'an, Allah relates their regretful expressions as follows:
We have warned you of an imminent punishment on the Day when a man will see what he has done, and the unbeliever will say, "Oh, if only I were dust!" (Surat an-Naba': 40)
If only you could see when they are standing before the Fire and saying, "Oh! If only we could be sent back again, we would not deny the Signs of our Lord and we would be among the believers." (Surat al-An'am: 27)
They will say, "If only we had really listened and used our intellect, we would not have been Companions of the Blaze." (Surat al-Mulk: 10)
The aim of this book is to warn people against a day when they will regret saying "had we only understood...," "had we only not rejected the signs of our Lord...," "had we only followed those who brought us the message...," "had we only done this and that" etc and to invite them to live for Allah while they still have the possibility to correct their wrongs.
Keep in mind that that day no one's regret will save him from Allah's wrath. The only way to avoid this regret is to submit to Allah while there is still time and to comply with the commands of Allah.
This book is an invitation to the way of Allah and a reminder of the penalty in the inevitable Hereafter, where there will be no place to hide nor any probability of deliverance. Allah reminds this fact in the Qur'an in this way:
Respond to your Lord before a Day comes from Allah which cannot be turned back. On that Day you will have no hiding-place and no means of denial. (Surat ash-Shura: 47)
Utangulizi
Wakati fulani binadamu akiwa duniani huwa na huzuni wa kimwili na wa kiroho. Hisia zingine ni kubwa zaidi na haziwezi kulinganishwa na uchungu wa kimwili. Hizi hisia ambazo zinailetea roho ya binadamu machungu na dhiki zinaitwa majuto.
Kuna aina mbili za majuto. Majuto ya watu wenye imani kwa upande mmoja na wasio kuwa na imani kwa upande mwingine. Hisia hizi mbili zinatofautiana sana
Waumini ni wale walio na imani thabiti kwamba lolote linalotokea ni kwa idhini ya Mwenyezi Mungu, na lolote linalowapata ni kwa kutaka kwake Mola. Ndio maana utaona waumini wana imani kwa Mwenyezi Mungu, imani ambayo haitingishiki wakati wowote uwe wa raha, au wa shida au wakifanya makosa. Mtume Muhammad (s.a.a.s) katika hadithi yake tukufu amesifu tabia ya muumini akisema:
Mfano wa muumini ni kama mmea shambani ambao unatikiswa na upepo lakini utarudi kwa nafasi yake ambayo ni thabiti katika mizizi yake. (Muslim)
Muumini anapotenda kosa, yeye humrudia na kumuomba Mwenyezi Mungu msamaha. Kwa hivyo haumii kwa muda mrefu akisikitika. Majuto anayokuwa nayo muumini yanamsukuma aombe msamaha na kujitakasa na yanamfanya asilirudie kosa lile. Hili huwasaidia kurekebisha makosa yao na ili wasikose matumaini katika maisha. Na pia majuto haya hayapunguzi bidii yao katika mambo ya ibada.
Kwa upande mwingine, majuto ya kafiri ni ya kudumu na kuumiza kwani hawana imani na Mwenyezi Mungu pindi wanapokumbwa na shida au wakitenda kosa. Kwa maisha yao yote wao hunena “Laiti singelifanya hili…” “ Laiti singesema hivi…” na kadhalika.
Lakini watakuwa na majuto makubwa siku ya kiyama. Wale ambao hawakuishi maisha ya kidini watajuta sana. Walionywa na kualikwa kwa njia iliyonyooka. Walikuwa na wakati muafaka wa kutafakari na kufuata njia ya ukweli. Lakini hawakusikiza.
Hakika Tunakuhadharisheni adhabu iliyo karibu (kufika), siku ambayo mtu atayaona yaliyotangulizwa na mikono yake miwili, na kafiri atasema: “Laiti ningalikuwa udongo (nisipate adhabu hii inayoningoja sasa)” (Surat an-Naba': 40)
Na ungeliona watakaposimamishwa motoni waseme: Laiti tungerudishwa (duniani) wala hatutakadhibisha ishara za Mola wetu na tutakuwa miongoni katika wanaoamini. (Surat al-An'am: 27)
“ Na watasema: “Kama tungalisikia au tungalikuwa na akili hatungekuwa katika watu wa motoni (leo) (Surat al-Mulk: 10)
Lengo la kitabu hiki ni kuwaonya watu kwa siku ambayo watajuta wakisema” Laiti tungefahamu...,” “Laiti hatungekadhibisha aya za Mola wetu...,” “Laiti tungeliwafuata wale waliotuletea ujumbe...,” “Laiti tungelifanya hili au lile” n.k lengo pia ni kuwaita watu waishi maisha kwa ajili ya Mwenyezi Mungu kama wangali hai ili warekebishe makosa yao.
Ni lazima kufahamu vyema kwamba majuto siku hiyo hayatamkinga mtu yeyote na hasira ya Mwenyezi Mungu. Njia pekee ya kuepukana na majuto hayo ni kujisalimisha kwa Mwenyezi Mungu kama wakati bado upo na kufuata maamrisho ya Mwenyezi Mungu.
Kitabu hiki ni cha kulingania kwa njia ya Allah na kukumbusha adhabu isiyoepukika katika maisha ya akhera siku ambayo hakuna pa kujificha wala kuokolewa. Mwenyezi Mungu anatukumbusha kenye Qurani tukufu akisema:
Mwitikieni Mola wenu kabla ya kufika siku isiyoepukika itokayo kwa Mwenyezi Mungu, siku hiyo hamtakuwa na pa kukimbilia wala hamtakuwa na (njia) ya kukataa. (Surat ash-Shura: 47)
