מאז שנת 1948 עד ל 1967, נעקרו רוב הפליטים היהודים מאדמות הולדתם שם התגוררו במשך מאות שנים לפני הכיבוש המוסלמי, דהיינו בטרם באו הערבים ממדבר ערב לאזורים אלה במאה השביעית לספירה. עד למאה העשירית לספירה, התגוררו 90 אחוז מיהודי העולם באזורים הידועים כיום כמדינות ערב.
בשנת 1948 התגוררו יותר מ 850,000 יהודים בארצות הערביות של המזרח התיכון וצפון אפריקה. עד 1976, נעלמו רוב הקהילות היהודיות בארצות אלה, והותירו אחריהן אלפים בודדים של יהודים, מפוזרים על-פני ערים אחדות באזור. החקירה וההצגה של עובדות היסטוריות אלה, ניתנות לקדם את תהליך השלום במזרח התיכון של היום. הסוף העצוב והפתאומי יחסית של אחדות מהקהילות היהודיות העתיקות בעולם, התרחש בחלקו הגדול עקב שרשרת של חוקים אזרחיים שעניינם חוסר סובלנות, אפליה ודיכוי ולעתים קרובות רדיפות אכזריות. חוקים ורדיפות אלה היו מנת חלקם של השותפים לגורל היהודי מידי המדינות המארחות, והם הוחרפו אחרי קום מדינת ישראל. אולם, היו זמנים שבהם יהודים נהנו מרווחה וממידה מסוימת של סובלנות והגנה מצד החוק ובמקרים אחדים אף זכו להגיע למשרות רמות תחת השלטון הערבי.

Translation - Hebrew Desde 1948 até 1967, a maioria dos judeus refugiados foram deslocados para terras desconhecidas onde eles viveram centenas de anos antes da conquista muçulmana, ou seja, antes que os árabes chegassem do deserto da Arábia neste território, no 7 século. Até o décimo século dC, viveram 90 por cento dos judeus do mundo conhecidos hoje nos países árabes.
Em 1948, havia mais de 850.000 judeus nos países árabes , Oriente Médio e Norte da África. Em 1976, a maioria das comunidades judaicas desapareceram destes países, deixando para trás alguns milhares de judeus, dispersos nas cidades da região. A investigação e apresentação destes fatos históricos serviu para promover o processo de paz no Oriente Médio nos dias de hoje. O triste fim e súbito, é que relativamente poucas das antigas comunidades judaicas do mundo estão grande parte espalhadas devido a uma série de leis civis em matéria de discriminação, intolerância e opressão e perseguição e crueldade. Leis e perseguições era o destino e recompensa dos judeus nos países que escolheram ser acolhidos, e se intensificou após a criação de Israel. No entanto, houve momentos em que judeus desfrutaram de prosperidade e um grau de tolerância e proteção sob a lei e, em alguns casos ganhou destaque sob o domínio árabe.
A Declaração do Estado de Israel em 1948 como um Estado judeu independente, observou-se o aumento da discriminação judaica nos países árabes, e como uma oportunidade para se livrar dos judeus, permitindo-lhes a emigrar.
