Bio
Hello!
My name is Zoltan, and I am a translator.
Creating quality, accurate translations is one of my passions.
I was born and raised in Budapest, Hungary, and moved to the US at the age of 24, in 1994. I have both an American and a Hungarian citizenship.
I am lucky to have grown up and lived in a variety of areas, with different people of quite diverse backgrounds, and as a result, I ended up with quite a range of experience and areas of interest. My parents - both of them are engineers - have imbued me with a love and respect for the exact sciences from an early age. At the same time, I have been surrounded with a love of the arts for as long as I can remember - with a number of successful artists in my family, my mother and grandmother included. So as a result, I also found myself getting involved with these areas at various points in my life.
I was also lucky to have been encouraged by my family to learn languages from a young age: I gained a high level of proficiency with English, as well as a working knowledge of German and Russian, with a “tinge” of Italian and Spanish. These came in very handy when I first lived in Germany for about a year, and then decided to move to the US in 1994, as well as in my travels. (I have traveled to Russia, Romania, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria, Germany, Poland, Croatia, Slovenia, Belgium and the United Kingdom (in addition to my former home of Hungary and my current home of the US). And within the US, I've lived in Tampa Bay, Florida, Los Angeles, California and New York City, and visited about two thirds of the US States.)
I also read quite a bit - art, philosophy, politics, history and law are a few of those areas have been captivating me for a long time.
I’ve also had the good fortune of working in a variety of fields in various capacities, such as construction, building management, HVAC, engineering, electronics, graphic design, printing, web design, animation, audio, computers, organization - just to name a few. (This, in addition to regularly taking on professional translations projects from the age of 22.)
I’ve been involved in several areas of athletics as well, such as cross-country running, swimming, windsurfing, martial arts, skiing, rock climbing.
I’m also a fine artist as well as a jazz musician (I play guitar and bass).
All this is something I can use VERY well in my translations work - and I have, for a long time now.
The translation projects I have handled, include areas such as legal (contracts, immigration, bidding for government projects), finance (annual reports, audits), government, medical, educational, philosophy, arts, engineering, computer science and literature.
I have also done interpreting work at live events, business meetings, legal negotiations and such.
I take great pride in creating translations that accurately reflect both the concepts and the stylistic nuances of the original work. I am, most of all, and artist, and to me linguistics and translations are nothing but art, and I strive to treat them that way.
I’d love to have you in the ranks of my happy clients whose businesses or lives I have been able to enhance through my translations work.
Please contact me to discuss.
Sincerely,
Zoltan Janosi
