The Guarani Aquifer’s reserve is a life maintenance guarantee for those countries covered by it. The importance of such reservoir requires those countries whose soil harbors such wealth to search for a common solution and means of sustainable use, creating common utilization and protection rules. Besides the creation of these rules it is necessary to have the four countries and its respective communities working together towards a sustainable and due employment of the Guarani Aquifer’s water as this is the main objective of the Guarani Aquifer Project.

A ideia de Top Lawyers veio numa viagem à Nova York, num domingo pela manhã lendo o New York Times, que trazia um suplemento só de lawyers com ‘aquele espirito’ de Manhattan. De volta a São Paulo, tivemos um encontro em seguida com Miguel Matos, publisher do Migalhas e propusemos uma parceria para a edição do livro. Eu encontrei não somente um parceiro cuja reputação no meio da advocacia impressiona, mas, sobretudo um homem simpático e apaixonado pelo metier. Depois de selada a composição, começamos imediatamente o projeto em conjunto, em busca de um resultado criativo e inovador.

The idea to make “Top Lawyers” was drawn during a trip to New York, on a Sunday when I was reading The New York Times. There was a “lawyers’” section with the ‘Manhattan spirit’. Back to Sao Paulo, a second meeting happened with Miguel Matos, Migalhas publisher and we suggested the collaboration in order to edit this book. I found more than an associate whose reputation among lawyers is impressive. I met a pleasant man, passionate for the metier. After closing the agreement, we immediately started the project up, looking for creative and innovative outcome.

Pelos idos dos anos mil e quinhentos, alguns magnatas asiáticos espalharam o jogo, que chegou a ser ligeiramente popular na China, Japão e Índia. Plantadores de chá nas cercanias de Burma envolveram-se com o incipiente esporte, e em 1862 foi fundado em Calcutá, o que é hoje o club de polo sobrevivente mais antigo do mundo. Na Inglaterra, o jogo se estabeleceu no Hurlingham Club em 1874, e foi aí que as primeiras regras foram criadas. O polo virou um esporte fashionable tanto para os jogadores como para a plateia, seguindo quase como um lifestyle sofisticado e sempre remetendo à tradição. Adrenalina é a palavra chave.

The game of polo originated in the mists of time, with a record of it mentioned in a Persian poem almost six centuries before Christ. Around the year 1500, some Asian tycoons spread the game, which was also slightly popular in China, Japan and India. Tea growers in the vicinity of Burma became involved with the incipient sport and, in Calcutta, in 1862, they founded which is now the world's oldest surviving polo club. In England, the sport was established at the Hurlingham Club in 1874 when the first rules were set.
