Source text - English Angleton is old school--so old school that I'm pretty sure I've seen his face in a departmental photo taken during the war, back when the Laundry was an obscure department of SOE, the Special Operations Executive, tasked with occult intelligence gathering and counter-demonology. He doesn't look a day older today than he did back then, sixty-five years ago--dress him in a bandage and he could star in a remake of The Mummy. Ice-blue eyes with slightly yellowish scleras, skin like parchment left out for too long in a desert sandstorm, dry as bone and twice as chilly as ice. And I never want to hear his laugh again. But I digress. The thing about Angleton is that, despite (or in addition to) being the honorary departmental monster, he has a sense of humor. It bears about the same relationship to mirth that his cadaverous exterior does to Paris Hilton's--but it's there. (He has the heart of a young boy: keeps it in a reliquary under the coffin he sleeps in.) And right then, I figured he was winding me up for the punch line.
Translation - French Angleton est old school. Tellement old school que je suis à peu près sûr d’avoir vu son visage dans une photo de la Deuxième Guerre, quand la Laverie n’était encore qu’un département obscur du SOE, la Direction des opérations spéciales, chargé de la collecte de renseignements occultes et de la contre-démonologie. Il n’a pas l’air d’avoir vieilli d’une seule journée depuis lors, il y a déjà soixante-cinq ans. Recouvrez-le de bandelettes et il pourrait jouer dans un remake de La Momie : des yeux bleus aux sclères légèrement jaunies et une peau de parchemin comme séchée par une tempête de sable. Et puis je ne veux plus jamais entendre son rire. Mais je m’égare. Le truc avec Angleton, c’est que malgré (ou en plus de) son statut de monstre honoraire du département, il a le sens de l’humour. Son humour a autant à voir avec la gaieté que son aspect cadavérique avec Paris Hilton, mais il est bien là. (Il a le cœur d’un jeune homme : il le conserve dans un reliquaire sous le cercueil dans lequel il dort.) Bref, j’étais persuadé qu’il me préparait pour la chute du gag.

Bio
I’m an English to French translator with extensive experience in the technical and literary fields, with many video games from several reputable agencies. Projects I'm particularly proud of are the CRPG Torment: Tides of Numenera, a challenging "serious" military simulation, the Eclipse Phase series of TTRPGs and the translation of three books by Charles Stross from his famed "The Laundry Files".
After a detour into academia—where I taught English literature, explored ecological utopias, and contributed to academic discourse through presentations, articles, and grant proposals—I am returning to translation with a new-found passion for knowledge dissemination.
My areas of expertise include literary theory, science fiction, utopian studies, environmental humanities, and philosophy. I also have a strong personal interest in ancient history, ancient languages, religious studies, and Near Eastern studies.
