For this translation, I studied the existing materials in Spanish of the IB to create a term base of their specific terms and analysed the Spanish translation of a previous book by the same publisher to maintain consistency.
Later, in 2020, I was offered 2 more Maths books of a higher level (Diploma Programme, for students aged 16-10) that I’m currently finishing.
These books have been a pleasure to translate, as they are very interesting and the collaboration with the publishing house excellent.

Mit Kunststoffolien konnte bei gleichem oder sogar kleinerem Volumen die Gefahr eines Durchschlages weiter gesenkt, aber nicht ausgeschaltet werden. Die maximal nutzbare Feldstärke war von einzelnen Schwachstellen begrenzt. Durch Übertragung des Selbstheilprinzips auf Kunststoffkondensatoren wurden diese unschädlich und Betriebsfeldstärken von 106 V/cm erreicht. Die Kondensatoren wurden dadurch gleichzeitig noch sicherer und erheblich kleiner.
Die Arbeiten verliefen in vielen Einzelschritten ohne Sensation. Für die hohe Zuverlässigkeit und Kleinheit der modernen Elektronik waren sie aber eine unbedingte Voraussetzung.
Bei den selbstheilenden Kondensatoren benützt man extrem dünne Elektroden, die im Falle eines Kurzschlusses so weit verdampfen, daß um den Durchschlagskanal herum eine isolierende Ringzone (Isolierhof) entsteht (Abb. 1) (1). Der Effekt wurde in den 30er Jahren an metallisiertem Papier gefunden und führte zu den sog. MP-Kondensatoren. Eine Übertragung des Prinzips auf das erste Kunststoff-Dielektrikum Polystyrol gelang jedoch nicht. Meist fiel die Isolation schon nach den ersten Durchschlägen ganz erheblich, manchmal bis zum Kurzschluß, obgleich der spe¬zifische Widerstand von Polystyrol etwa 104 mal höher liegt als der von Papier. Dieser Befund veranlaßte uns, den Selbstheileffekt näher zu untersuchen.

Este efecto se observó en los años 30 en papel metalizado, lo que dio lugar a los llamados condensadores MP. No obstante, el intento de aplicar este principio al primer dieléctrico de plástico de poliestireno no funcionó. En la mayor parte de los casos el aislamiento se reducía de manera considerable tras unas pocas perforaciones, pudiéndose incluso llegar a producir un cortocircuito, a pesar de que la resistencia específica del poliestireno es aproximadamente 104 veces mayor que la del papel. Este resultado nos llevó a investigar el efecto de autorregeneración en mayor detalle.

Source text - German Die Alterung und Verschmutzung der Druckflüssigkeit hängt von vielfältigen Betriebsbedingungen ab, wie z. B. Temperatur, Betriebsdruck, Filterung, Schmutzeintrag aus der Umwelt über Belüftungseinrichtungen und Bewegungsdichtungen, Luftfeuchtigkeit usw.
Eine Sichtprüfung bringt nur eine grobe Abschätzung (Trübung der Druckflüssigkeit, dunkleres Aussehen als zum Einfüllzeitpunkt, Bodensatz im Behälter).
Empfohlen wird jedoch eine Laboruntersuchung. Je nach Ergebnis der Untersuchung ist die Druckflüssigkeit bei:
- Alterung und/oder Verschlammung auszutauschen
- Verschmutzung (Reinheitsklasse wird nicht eingehalten). Filtration mit einem separaten Filteraggregat.
Zur Entfernung von Verschlammung und einer größeren Ansammlung von Wasser wird empfohlen, ca. 90 % des Behältervolumens über ein externes Filteraggregat zu entnehmen und zu reinigen. Die Restmenge mit den Schmutz- und Wasserablagerungen ist gemäss geltenden Verordnungen zu entsorgen.

Para eliminar el enlodamiento, así como acumulaciones mayores de agua se recomienda filtrar aproximadamente el 90 % del volumen del depósito a través de una unidad de filtrado externa. La cantidad restante, con acumulaciones de suciedad y agua, debe desecharse de acuerdo con la normativa vigente.

Source text - English A successful frac will typically increase the permeability of fine-grained hydrocarbon reservoirs – thus enhancing the well’s production and delivering a significant rate of return. This is achieved by stimulating an existing network of natural fractures (Maxwell et al., 2006; Gale et al., 2007). Hydraulically stimulated natural fractures are generally near the wellbore and are a primary receiver of proppant necessary to create a flow pathway to the wellbore. In some cases, a horizontal wellbore will encounter a pre-existing stressed tectonic fault. Pumping of fluids and proppant into a fault can bring about one or more unintended negative effects. A non-target formation may be stimulated and give rise to hydraulic connectivity with aquifers that ultimately increase water production. Another risk is diversion of fluid and proppant to a fault zone that lies several hundred feet away from the target fracture stage. The end result is decreased stimulation of the target formation, a potential increase in water production, and a significant cost to the operator in terms of time and materials. Having the ability to differentiate between faults and fractures in a timely manner is critical to reducing such material waste which could be otherwise employed in areas that are more favourable for effective stimulation.

Anaerobic digestion is an attractive waste disposal route, because it allows for the collection of food material as well as packaging, which can either be used as a source of energy or converted into fertiliser. AD has become an important element of the UK’s renewable energy portfolio. In May, the coalition announced plans to “promote a huge increase in energy from waste through anaerobic digestion”.

(e) Flask sampling support to one region: to build capacity of Article 5 countries in one region, US $175,000 per year to support to a regional laboratory to analyze samples from countries in the region, and US $500,000 to support periodic flask sampling in five countries in that region, resulting in costs of US $1,375,000 for periodic flask sampling in five countries over five years;
(f) Support for calibration standards, measurement support software and an international conference on lessons learned: technical assistance to support common calibration standards and support for an international conference to share lessons learned and best practices (US $1,000,000); and

Understanding the dimensional stability of neutron absorbers in control rods used in light water reactors (LWRs) is critical to both predicting their mechanical lifetime and establishing their design features. The mechanical lifetime is the length of time the control rod resides in the reactor until the control rod's outer cladding (usually stainless steel) cracks and continues to expand. This could impede the ability of the control rod to fully insert.
In PWRs, the control rod cladding may fail by fabrication defects, fretting wear with guide tubes and guide cards, or by excessive straining caused by swelling of the absorber resulting in mechanical interaction (that is, stressing) between the absorber and cladding. The latter failure mechanism usually occurs at the lower tip of the control rod that has the highest exposure or neutron fluence (that is, cumulative number of neutrons per unit area over a specified energy range). This expansion or dimensional change is difficult to predict; therefore, it is difficult to incorporate mitigating design features because of the lack of post-irradiation examination (PIE) and testing of the absorber materials across the entire spectrum of exposure.
Objectives
• Perform a comprehensive literature review to extract and compile all pertinent AIC data from previous EPRI research as well as open literature.
• Perform various analyses and develop models to aid in understanding control rod dimensional stability based on physical, chemical, and microstructural property data sets as well as the dynamics of neutron capture, transmutation, and metallurgical mechanisms.
• Provide an overall assessment of the data and resulting models, with guidance for monitoring AIC absorber exposure (that is, neutron fluence, effective full power years of operation, and so on) and mechanical lifetime of control rods.
Approach
EPRI's Fuel Reliability Program (FRP) and other industry stakeholders sponsored several PIE projects over the past few decades to expand the data set on irradiated AIC alloy used in PWR control rods. Control rod absorber materials from at least four different PWRs were harvested, shipped to hot cell facilities, and examined. These PIE projects have included several characterization, testing, and analytical examinations to measure physical, chemical, and microstructural properties as a function of absorber exposure. For the preparation of this report, a collaborative research team was formed and included staff and personnel from FRP, utilities, control rod suppliers, and EPRI contractors.

Source text - English Renishaw Central now offers improved additive manufacturing efficiency
To help manufacturers improve production efficiency and monitor their additive manufacturing (AM) performance in real-time, global engineering technologies company Renishaw has issued an update to its Renishaw Central manufacturing data platform. Using feedback from sensors fitted to AM systems, the software gathers and displays machine process data from across production facilities, including AM systems. This means that users can track machine status and what jobs have been executed, as well as pinpoint errors and act on them before they impact process efficiency.
Using Renishaw Central, manufacturers can now capture data throughout the AM process chain, and view machine and process analytics in real-time. The software displays several parameters including build traffic, job progress and recent build history. Users can also sort and select jobs based on name, the number of runs passed, the number of fails and other parameters. If the machine sensors detect a problem, it will feed this back to the platform and Renishaw Central will display an error message informing the user. Then, an operator can be deployed to fix the problem.
Renishaw Central can also provide manufacturers with access to time series data, environmental insights and the results of any process changes. By capturing this data and comparing it over different periods, users can optimise production by introducing process changes based on prior performance.
“Unlike milling or machining, the AM process involves putting materials through phase changes, so manufacturers must keep a close eye on build performance to avoid any anomalies,” explains Ben Diaz, Senior Product Manager at Renishaw. “Renishaw Central enables operators to connect multiple systems with one manufacturing data platform, improving communication across the shop floor. The platform streams data seamlessly, enabling users to see real-time data from AM systems, CNC machines and other systems at a glance, as well as receive live machine and data analytics that can inform predictive maintenance.”
The latest Renishaw Central update supports Renishaw’s existing Additive Manufacturing Process Monitoring (AMPM) solution, which consists of three visualisation software tools.
