Bio
I am a Chinese-English translator based in Bristol UK with over 8 years' professional experience. I graduated with honours from Oxford University having studied Chinese and Tibetan for four years, and earned a diploma in modern Chinese language from Peking University.

Following my time at Oxford I spent several years both as a freelance translator and as a private language and cultural tutor for individuals, schools, and businesses in the South West of the UK. I also set up a consultancy service for UK based organisations wanting help in conducting business in China. During this time I was the youngest person invited to sit on a consultative panel with Prime Minister Gordon Brown on how the government can help to grow small-medium enterprises in the country, and I was also involved in discussions with the London bureau of Xinhua news agency concerning ways in which they could market their information archive to a European audience.

In 2008 I formalised my translation training by taking an MA in Interpreting and Translation from the UN-certified programme at the University of Bath, at which time I interned for the UNODC in Vienna as a simultaneous interpreter.

Following my graduation from Bath in 2009, I continued my work as a freelance translator through various agencies and private clients. My work has been highly varied, including technical legal and medical texts, poetry, subtitling, commercial correspondence, and one book by Taiwanese author Xiu Lan Jie. For several years I worked part time for the translation department at the University of Bath as the coordinator for the Routes into Languages project and as a guest lecturer for the Chinese-English interpreting stream on the MA programme.

Since 2010 I have developed a particularly close relationship with the charity Love China International, which was formerly one of my early translation clients. My relationship with LCI has varied between coordinating their UK activities and serving as an interpreter for three conference tours, which involved bringing speakers from the Chinese Underground Church movement into Europe. The largest meeting I interpreted for in consecutive mode was for a conference involving approximately 3,500 attendees in Summer 2012.

My expertise and involvement with Chinese Christianity led me to receive a commission from Lion Hudson Publishing to author the recent book 'The Coming Chinese Church' with the Director of LCI, and since then I have continued to be invited to speak at conferences on the subject of Chinese Christianity and the relationship between the Chinese Church and the Government.

I believe in providing my translation clients with the highest standard of professionalism and customer service. While I specialize in translation from Chinese into English (my native tongue), I have a list of trusted contacts who work into their native Chinese to the same high standard, so please don't hesitate to get in touch to discuss your particular needs.
