Venue? Sep 19, 2013

Hi Suzanne,

I had proposed a powwow for the following week (Oct 4), as part of the ProZ networking marathon, but they were taking forever to approve it. I've now asked them to cancel my request, and we'll go with your date instead.

Have you decided on a venue? The Works, same as last time? They don't require you to book a table and are pretty flexible about accommodating however many people turn up.

Am making a Sceneverse page for the powwow Sep 20, 2013

Hi fellow translators! My partner's new social networking platform, Sceneverse.com, has finally launched! I would like to add the Powwow as an event and then we can comment/add pictures/write stories about it before or after the event. I will let you all know how to do that soon. It is necessary at this point to have a Facebook profile to log in to Sceneverse; if you don't have one, you can create a real one or a dummy profile to participate, if you so desire. May I suggest that we move back to the Diana Downtown for our venue? I would prefer that to the Works.

Looking forward to seeing you all and I will be in touch!

Venue and October 4/13 Sep 20, 2013

I would suggest Diana Downtown as well, as there are more options.

@Tom - I am surprised it took so long for your Powwow to be approved, since my request was approved within minutes this time! It would be great to have one on October 4 along with translators and interpreters around the world. Would people be interested in two events?

Let's stick with month-end Sep 20, 2013

@Suzanne: I've already withdrawn my request for an Oct 4 powwow. I think people might be reluctant to come out twice in eight days. Let's aim to have another powwow at the end of October instead. Up until the summer, we had been meeting regularly on the last Wednesday of the month, but if another day (Thursday?) works better for you and/or others, we can change it.

Okay - September 26/13 at Diana Downtown Sep 23, 2013

Hello Tom,

We will go with this Thursday. Wednesday or Thursdays are better for me, Fridays not so much.

Suzanne

Sceneverse URL for Powwow Sep 23, 2013

Hello fellow translators!

I had mentioned to you that my partner, David, has a new social networking platform that just launched on September 15th. I would like to invite anyone going to the Powwow to sign up to Sceneverse.com and become part of the Guelph Translation Scene by joining the Powwow there, or by posting a story, link, or event related to translation of your choosing.

I just posted a quick story about translation courses offered at the University of Guelph, to illustrate how a story will add to the scene. Here is the link to the Powwow: https://www.sceneverse.com/#event;id=106003

Here is the link to my story about the translation courses: https://www.sceneverse.com/#story;id=111001

Because the Powwow and story share the "translation" tag and the "Guelph" tag, they are related.

Signing up to the Sceneverse Powwow page is completely optional, of course! Sceneverse is a platform that organizes information in a new way and it can be very useful to people trying to find translators in our area. Stories that we write can be public or only shared amongst a group. For example, I could write a story about our Powwow after it happens and make it either public or available only to those of us who attend. I made my story editable by any Scenverse member, for example. Collaborative story-telling is one of the new features about Sceneverse that is exciting.

If you don't want to participate now or can't, you can jump in at any time and add any other stories about translation that you like. You may also create scenes and add stories about any other topic of interest. (music, theatre, sports, hobbies, history, future plans, anything!). If you are from another country, you can add a scene there. If you are a historian, you can create a scene about the past.

Sceneverse can be used to sell tickets on-line for any real event happening anywhere, also. (Our event is free but due to a software glitch, the platform still asks for credit card info at this time. If you do sign up there for the Thursday Powwow, $0 will be charged. Using Sceneverse to sell tickets for your paid event is free- a small surcharge is passed on to the person buying the ticket.)

This is a new concept, so if you don't quite understand its usefulness, no problem. I can explain more to anyone who is interested at a later date-not necessarily at the Powwow, but I would be happy to if anyone is interested!

I would like to create a story profiling Guelph and area-based translators though, in future. I hope you will be interested in participating.

Best,

Lisa
