How can Tageditor bilingual file (TTX) be converted in word doc? Thread poster: Albana Dhimitri

Hello all,
I have been asked to deliver an UNCLEAN bilingual file (as part of a project).
I already delivered it in TTX format (translation opened in tageditor) but, I was, then specifically required to have the UNCLEAN file in .doc format. Here is the request itself:

"The UNCLEAN file should look just like the clean file, however it should have the source and target languages in it. The way Trados formats it, is one sentence source and then one sentence target, etc... throughout the whole piece".
Can someone help me with this?
I don't seem to be able to find a "saving bilingual as .doc" in Trados, or is it? And if not, are there any other programmes that convert TTX to .doc?
Thanks in advance for your kind attention,
Albana

This has been discussed a few times already, I believe, and no, you cannot just save the file as a bilingual .doc somehow. You can, however, use your memory to translate the file again, this time using the Word workflow (with the macro buttons on the Word toolbar). You may not get all 100% matches, but it should be fairly quick nonetheless.

Thanks a lot, Benjamin, for your prompt post.
Yes, I, too, thought it is not possible to have Trados bilingual file saved as .doc, , but I need collegues' opinions, as well, so that I am certain of it.
Thank you! | | | How did the source arrive? | Nov 14, 2008 |
Was your source document a Word file?
If so, translate this file in Word using your memory. You will then have an unclean doc file that you can clean and produce a Word file with just the translated text.

I have never before used a translation memory to translate in Word, though.
How exactly is it done (I mean the steps of translating a text in Word using a translation memory)?
Thank you very much!
It is great to have some ideas on what I can do.
If you use Word 2003, go to Tools - Templates and Add-ins. Then check Trados.dot (if not listed, locate it on your hard drive via the Add button).
(In Word 2007, Add-ins are listed under the Word logo top left / Options.)
Then you should see a new toolbar with red buttons. If not, check View - Toolbars and choose TW4Win.

Thanks a million for taking the time to describe the procedure. I will try it and hope it works.
Gratefully,

I really have to thank you for your precious help as I was in the very unpleasant situation of having to delay the project delivery due to not being able to produce a .doc bilingual file.
I followed the steps you suggested and viola!
I did it thanks to you.
Best wishes
