.. so it's time to think of all the good agents and agencies who have tried to make us rich since January 1st 2007.
How do you thank them? Do you send Xmas cards? A bunch of roses:-D? A pound of raspberries:P?
Suggestions welcome. Tell us what you plan.
Vito

For me, human touch is the most important present of them all. I have never had the chance to meet anyone at the agencies I work with, so this Xmas I´m going to visit them and have a very, very long coffee with them. | | | I am very unromantic ... | Nov 23, 2007 |
in this matter.
I normally send a (hopefully!) nice self-made E-Card with some picture and text I like and find fitting for the season and donate the money I saved for paper mail to Unicef or some similar foundation.
And then I enjoy imagining that the donated money may help someone who needs it at least a tiny little bit. It is part of what Christmas is about, isn't it?
Okay, maybe I am not so unromantic after all ... See more in this matter.

Or who we have tried to make rich?
Good ones get a Christmas card.
Special ones maybe something else. Should be something from your culture e.g.
A mug as a penholder - they are cheap to print onto. Message like "Can you really run the risk of having your xxx translations done eslewhere? Smiley + Logo/URL
Maybe not an EN football shirt?
Thanks for the reminder...

I just regard them people. Most of time they are! Actually I never send presents. All cards together are mixture of e-cards, new season cards and older types. Since the December month isn't without meaning I search the cards stock of a charitative second hand shop, which provides me with real beauties, while the proceeds go to a Yakarta ground school. So: everybody happy! In an Excel file I register whether I send an paper or electronic one, so through the years it's a mixture for all recipients... See more I just regard them people. Well, now the real spam!
Somebody I know sells till end of year flower bulbs for the benefit of former brick layer "enjoying" eight years in a row Bed and Breakfast
Well, that is, lying to bed with severe back problems. The insurance doesn't cover a surgery in Münich (80% succes) which he would like to undergo, so he has to find 50.000 Euros himself. So, now the good side of narcism: you like to give somebody nice narcissi on the window sill? 30% is for the benefit of Hans the bricklayer:

Some great lines, Vito! I bet the ones that were "urejeno" were even better.
But: so much for my slightly cynical statement up top.
Apart from 15 tonnes of Christmas shopping junk mail over the fast few weeks, the first Christmas card of this year has just plopped onto my mat.
From a friend, family, tradesman or whatever? Nope. From an agency, bless their cotton socks.... See more | | | You're a riot, Vito | Nov 27, 2007 |

After a very careful and thorough deliberation...
I, I love the colorful mails she sends
And the way she splits infinitives
I hear the klicks of a two oh seven word
On the wind that spreads her breath through the air
Im pickin up good vibrations
Shes giving me bad citations
Im giving her good translations
(oom bop bop good vibrators)
Shes giving me tough retractions
(oom slam dunk good translations)

It would be indeed a funny marketing gift, Chris. Personally, I send to good translation agencies a nice Christmas ecard, have received also greetings from them in the course of the collaboration. | | | Vito Smolej Germany Local time: 00:17 Member (2004) English to Slovenian + ... After having read your poem on the translation job a little bit further down on this forum thread ...
well, ... er ..., as ProZ.com rules say it, it "could be seen as abusive". To even it out, Ill add few lines, my agents could put on their mug gift for me. I can be abusive of myself as well - I do deserve it more often than I would be ready to admit -.
"Vito, you sawed off that segment again, it's still too short"
"re mastering my mother language - it's not my mother's fault"
- do your own variants of it
"Wanted for murder - translations"
- this would be perfect with mug shot included...
"Me Tarzan - you Vito - do Slovenian?"
"Where have all the commas gone, long time passing..."
Let me stop goofing off, it's Christmas time after all.
Outing: my agents will get personalized mail, every one of them, with one of my little paintings. Because they are worth it.
Regards and peace on earth for all
