Trados Studio 2011 closes immediately after start, no error message Thread poster: Carolin Krüger

As soon as I open Trados, the window closes after a second and no error message is displayed. I uninstalled everything and installed it again - still the same problem. It seems that I cannot ask SDL for help as I do not own the latest version (Trados 2014). Does anyone have a solution? Where can I find help? | | | Of course you can ask SDL | Jan 6, 2015 |
Both Studio 2011 and Studio 2014 are fully supported. Go to the Knowledgebase;

Then go to the tab called Solution Finder ( http://kb.sdl.com/?cid=23&tab=sf ) and now go here;

Follow the route for your problem and if there is no answer that helps by the time you get to the end you'll be presented with a form to contact support. Complete all the fields in the form making sure your email address is entered correctly or nobody will be able to get back in touch with you.
Also use the Chrome browser to log the case if you have it; you'll get more success in completing the form.

Thank you for your answer, Paul. I tried to submit a request in the solution finder but I got an error message: "Caught exception undefined..." in Firefox, Chrome and Opera. I think it is a Java problem.
Would you be able to submit the request for me? The text should read:

I am having exactly the same problem and because the EU offices are now closed and I have to deliver a translation before they open, contacting the support is of no use. Would you already have a solution you could share?

But only apply the first two as you probably don't need to change the projects folder for this problem:

- C:\Users\[User_Name]\AppData\Local\SDL: rename the SDL Trados Studio and ProjectApi folder
- C:\Users\[User_Name]\AppData\Roaming\SDL: rename the SDL Trados Studio folder
Don’t do number 3. ie, the projects folder.
If this doesn't help then log a support case anyway as suggested above. I know it won't help you tonight but better to get it resolved than not at all.

Just an update.
I received a suggestion how to possibly resolve the issue. But before following the steps gave it one more try. Located SDL from my Start menu and right clicked on Run as administrator. Not sure if it was a pure accident but it opened as usual and I am in the middle of my translation now.

I had the same problem with my SDL Trados Studio 2011.
I got to solve my problem this way:
1. Right-click the SDL Trados Studio 2011 icon;
2. Click on Properties;
3. Compatibility tab;
4. Under Compatibility Mode, check Run this program in compatibility mode for;
5. In the drop-down menu, select 'Windows 7' (others options worked for me too)
My OS is Windows 7.
