Discussion

Chris Says Bye Apr 27, 2019:
I wouldn’t have thought it would require much special training to deal with a knife attack
Agneta Pallinder Apr 26, 2019:
@Michele That's a good point, but perhaps a problem with MCA is that it does not make clear that it is a current (pågående) event. I suppose "Active Shooter Situation" which is notified by an "Active Shooter Alert" got established so strongly because in the US it has so often been a question of gun violence.

Plamen Nenchev (asker) Apr 26, 2019:
"a spot of mind reading" Are you really asking why I am looking for the English equivalent of the Swedish term (rather than for a literal word-for-word translation)?
George Hopkins Apr 26, 2019:
Only translations? Are we being asked to translate or to do a spot of mind reading?
Chris Says Bye Apr 26, 2019:
Plus it sounds really cool
Plamen Nenchev (asker) Apr 26, 2019:
Agneta might be onto something, as all other suggestions are not terms that actually mean something in English but only translations.

The terminology "active shooter" is critiqued by some academics. There have been several mass stabbings that have high casualty counts, for instance in Belgium (Dendermonde nursery attack), Canada (2014 Calgary stabbing), China (2008 Beijing Drum Tower stabbings), Japan (Osaka School Massacre and Sagamihara stabbings), and Pennsylvania (Franklin Regional High School stabbing). Ron Borsch recommends the phrase "rapid mass murder". Due to a worldwide increase in firearm and non-firearm based Mass Casualty Attacks (including attacks with vehicles, explosives, incendiary devices, stabbings, slashing, acid attacks), Dr. Tau Braun and the Violence Prevention Agency (VPA) has encouraged the use of the more accurate descriptor Mass Casualty Attacker (MCA).
