Spanish term

el caprichoso trazado por el que discurre

Spanish to English Other Transport / Transportation / Shipping
Taken from a text about luxury rail travel for tourists:

La anchura de vía de un metro de los antiguos Ferrocarriles Económicos hace posible el caprichoso trazado por el que discurre y el original punto de vista que ofrece sobre un entorno de por si espectacular.

Struggling to render this sentence in English, any help much appreciated.

Many thanks :)

its winding/sinuous course

Hi Lisa,

The idea is that, as the rail-width is so narrow, it follows a route standard raliways can't.

You can always go for the 'capricious' idea - terms such as fanciful, unpredictable, temperamental - but I'm not sure that awarding the railway a 'personality' would work in English.

Good luck!

(...allows it to) casually/leisurely meander...

meander |mēˈandər|
verb [ intrans. ] (of a river or road) follow a winding course : a river that meandered gently through a meadow
• [in sing. ] a circuitous journey, esp. an aimless one : a leisurely meander around the twisting coastline road.
Peer comment(s):

agree Patricia Rosas : I like meander; in defense of Alvaro, in this case anchura = breadth (which happens to be narrow)
