Discussion

Non-ProZ.com Jul 26, 2005:
Answering... Unfortunately, the name of the author is not given but its an English play so after looking at this discussion again, I agree that the best thing is to translate this character into English (Bottom being the buffoon as already pointed out). Many thanks for all suggestions offered.
Anabel Martínez Jul 15, 2005:
I asked the moderator to ungrade the question so that you can do a better research and choose the appropriate answer accordingly.
Anabel Martínez Jul 15, 2005:
The buffoon is actually Nick Bottom, as I just found out, so that's the name you should use. I only hope nobody else feels in the mood for insulting me for sleeping.
Anabel Martínez Jul 15, 2005:
Jason, have you checked this is indeed the answer? I was sleeping while all this discussion took place and if this is an English play you have to look for the right name in English, unless you are sure that the name used in the original is Le favori.
writeaway Jul 14, 2005:
it was very wrong of you not to answer the question asked and now you've got the wrong answer-or did you think Purcell wrote his operas in Spanish?
Margarita Gonzalez Jul 14, 2005:
Do you have the name of the authors (music, libretto)? That could give us a hint if it's been translated. Or does it mention if it's a world premier?

Peer comment(s):

agree JaneTranslates : I agree, Jane. It´s Shakespeare, so in English, the original English names MUST be used! But I don´t think it´s Bottom; notice that he´s listed elsewhere.//Could well be. Moot point.

whatever Jane..why don't you have a go....the listingin Spanish and English is not the same...I figured it was because he is the buffoon..
agree writeaway : it's the Fairy Queen by Purcell (the great Spanish composer): http://www.teatrocervantes.es/espectaculo.php?id=169

Le favori

names are not translated
Peer comment(s):

disagree writeaway : you are 100% correct: names are not translated. since it's an English language opera by Purcell-: The Fairy Queen. of course one puts the names back to the original: http://www.teatrocervantes.es/espectaculo.php?id=169
