Funnily enough, I just tried writing "beret" with my MS Word language set to Spanish and guess what it suggests: verte.

Seems the writer may have simply accepted MS Word's suggestion.

I took N.A. to stand for Norteamérica, an erroneous but somewhat common reference to the U.S. N.A. may indeed mean something else, but pretty confident that the verte here owes to the MS Word correction I pointed out. :O)

Another Wikpedia entry lists military forces that wear the green beret as part of their uniform, but Chilean forces are not among those referred, so perhaps the N.A. is the U.S. after all.
