Discussion

Yes, I'm pretty sure it's a noun.
lexical Mar 14, 2007:
Yes, I'm sure it's a very broad category - just think of that aisle in your local supermarket with all the baking products, sauces, etc, in. Incidentally, I think 'culinarios' is a noun here - or at worst an adjectival noun.
Amy Duncan (X) (asker) Mar 14, 2007:
Yes, "culinary items" or "products" seems to make sense, although it sure is broad! I can think of about a million things that come under that category!
lexical Mar 14, 2007:
I think the idea is 'culinary items' or 'culinary products'. They're probably talking about the sort of things you use in cooking, like flour, baking powder, breadcrumbs, etc, etc.
Paula Vaz-Carreiro Mar 14, 2007:
It seems a bit odd to talk about the culinary market but there are examples on google - it also seems a bit odd in Portuguese... but that kind of thing happens all the time...
Paula Vaz-Carreiro Mar 14, 2007:
...encompass recipe books, culinary instruments, and all that kind of thing - they may even offer classes as you say...
Paula Vaz-Carreiro Mar 14, 2007:
I also thought that was weird, but frankly, I think that is just bad Portuguese. I mean, they are talking about market segments and some of the words, like Lácteos for e.g, encompass an awful lot of stuff. I would imagine Culinários would encompass...
Amy Duncan (X) (asker) Mar 14, 2007:
True...however, I'm still puzzled by this. It's a major food company, and it never occurred to me that a food company would be involved in the "culinary arts." I mean, what do they do, offer cooking classes?
Paula Vaz-Carreiro Mar 14, 2007:
well, culinary means of or relating to a kitchen or to cookery, so I'd say it encompasses more than just cooking...
Amy Duncan (X) (asker) Mar 14, 2007:
What threw me off was the fact that it was in the plural.
Amy Duncan (X) (asker) Mar 14, 2007:
Culinary is an adjective...I need a noun. Now that I know this isn't some weird thing (I was thinking it might be some kind of prepared food or something - you never know), couldn't it just be "cooking?"

groceries ?

Tendo em consideração os outros grupos de produtos
penso que talvez se esteja a fazer referência à normalmente designada secção de mercearia num supermercado ? (massa, arroz, azeite etc., ou seja produtos para processamento culinário)
