What exactly is a 'kapal reguler'? I see many references on Google but don't know what the criteria are which distinguishes a 'kapal reguler' from other types of 'kapal'.
Context: 'Kemudian dilanjutkan dengan menggunakan kapal reguler maupun dengan kapal sewaan menuju pulau X.'

It depends on what island, you can't go to Lombok island with a boat from Bali. You go to Rinca Island to see the Komodo then you will need boat, no ferries.

Note from asker:
Maybe not always 'ships'; some are smaller 'boats' maybe? |
7 hrs
regular ship
This can be translated directly.
5 hrs
ferry crossing
In the context sentence, "reguler" implies a scheduled departure/arrival and then "kapal" can have meaning from boat, ferry, ship to vessel, etc. However in travel world, ferry is more commonly used to describe a scheduled inter-island mean of transport.

Oops, I didn't see the tiny islands coming. Perhaps you can apply it to larger islands with further distance in between:)

Example sentence:
Those who were not in time for the last ferry crossing, are doing whatever they can to escape the island tonight.
Note from asker:
Thanks, Eddy. In English, the 'crossing' part of 'ferry crossing' is the route/journey, not the vessel. As I indicated in my discussion, 'kapal reguler' can include various kinds of boats, ships, ferries, etc. I am seeking something in a regulation or law that says 'kapal regular berarti ...'. Between the tiny islands that my document is referring to, there is no 'ferry' just small boats that carry passengers, so I can't use 'ferry' and definitely not 'ferry crossing', because if there is no ferry, there is no ferry crossing! |

Perlu definisi hukum dulu pak buat situs website turisme.
"Jenis angkutan di perairan terdiri atas:
a. angkutan laut;
b. angkutan sungai dan danau; dan
c. angkutan penyeberangan."
I'll try your other suggestion.
Also you can googling with keywords:
jenis angkutan laut undang-undang
it mentions about Pasal 6 UU No.17/2008
hope it helps
