Does it mean "in the form of?" but that does not seem to be it here...
or does it mean "becuase of?". Many thanks.

Comment: "Thanks, Norbert and all the others. I chose manifesting as, becuase I felt that fit the context best. Many thanks to all."

I know that the jump is huge, but I've seen it written so many times this way and it might work for you...

You could rephrase it to avoid the stress: \"The neurological complications, ... or ... developed in 9 % of the patients.\"

Check here for some of the possible neurological complications (here in liver transplantations). I think at least one of them may be listed here (the one about the \"arteriellen Ischamien\"). ;-)

Yes, but neurolgoical complications may in the end cause arterial ischemia or venous thrombosis

or, actually, as you say, the other way around - perhaps a physician needs to have a say in this case

I think you're right, since the art. ischemias and cerebral v. thromboses are, themselves, may be the causes of neurological complications. The German phrasing is a little unfortunate.
But if you want to stick to the German original, then "such as" or in the form of" would be a correct translation.

in form of
i don't know much about medical terms and with what certain problems can occur but "in form von" means "in form of" or "types(ways) as"
Discussion
or am I wrong?
Thanks
