German term

zur Lösung einer gemeinsamen, nach außen gerichteten Aufgabe

German to English Bus/Financial Management
Ein Team ist ein formeller, kontinuierlicher Gruppenzusammenschluss zur Lösung einer gemeinsamen, nach außen gerichteten Aufgabe.

I just can't seem to put this sentence into eloquent English. It is from a book on teams and teamwork and comes from a passage defining what a team is (or is not).
Thanks for your help.

German term (edited): zur Lsung einer gemeinsamen, nach auen gerichteten Aufgabe
Selected

to fulfil(l) [complete] a common task that has an impact [influence] beyond the confines of the team

A team is a formal, continuous grouping [group of people] set up to fulfil(l)/complete a common task that has an impact on the (team) environment.

You may replace "continuous" with "permanent" or "long-term". Perhaps also "to jointly complete a task"?

(in this example, "environment" is used more in the sense of Umfeld not Umwelt, as e.g. in work environment)

agree silvia glatzhofer : very eloquent indeed.

A team is the formal, continuous amalgamation of a group with the aim of achieving a common, external goal.

neutral Steffen Walter : As far as I can gather from the original, the task per se is not external but its completion will have repercussions on the (external) work/corporate ... environment.

I checked out some websites on teamwork and the term external task is used in that context.

I'd say

The definition of team is that of a formal, integrated group of people dedicated to the successful completion of a common, outwardly-directed task

outwardly directed seems more fitting here then 'external'

Suggested sentence

A team is a formal on-going group, leveraged to solve a common task with an outward orientation.

There. Thats about as ineloquent and ambiguous as the source text. Management consultant bullshit pure. (Been there- they have their own language 'cos they can't express themselves with precision in the everyday one).
