What is the difference between capillary joint and V-joint brazing?
If the materials to be joined are at a distance greater than 0.5mm apart or if the brazing is V- or X-shaped, we speak of a V-joint. V-joint brazing, also known as braze welding, is used for design reasons or if necessary for economic and technical processing considerations - e.g. higher preparations costs for a joint which fits exactly. The technique of V-joint brazing is similar to that of gas welding using the forward-welding technique. The gap is filled drop by drop with the brazing alloy.
Galvanized steel pipes are brazed using V-joint method in order to avoid damage to the zinc layer.
When the materials to be joined together have a surface gap between them of less 0.5mm, we speak of a capillary joint gap.
The majority of all brazed joints use the capillary joint method. The maximum size of the gap for a capillary joint lies between .005mm and 0.2mm.
