German term

einrollen

German to English Tech/Engineering Engineering (general) Riveting
Context:

"mit Dichtmittel einrollen"

I'm not sure about this. It seems to me to mean "apply sealant with a roller". I'm thinking along the lines of "roll sealant on" or "roll up with sealant", since "einrollen" is often translated as "roll up", in some contexts at least (cf. http://www.linguee.com/search?direction=auto&query=einrollen ).

Thanks for the helpful discussion nevertheless!

ahhh... at last - the info I've been looking for. I could have spared you my comments. Indeed, I would say "apply sealant with a roller". Context is always the key! Frohes Schaffen!
Vera H. Jun 11, 2010:
if you are certain that a roller is used, then you can say "with a roller", otherwise I'd stay vague and say "roll on sealant". Then it would apply to any product.
David Williams (asker) Jun 11, 2010:
So would you think "apply sealant with a roller" covers it?
David Williams (asker) Jun 11, 2010:
It isn't stated here, but it may be PRC polyurethane sealant, which is referred to elsewhere in the text, although it apeears to generally be used as perimeter edge sealant. It isn't like Skyflex though, as it is rolled on wet using a roller.

Vera H. Jun 10, 2010:
see here for type of sealant David, do you know ehat kind of sealant this is referring to? This may not be a glue-like sealant as I had initially pictured - look at this lik, it refers to a rubber-like sealant that is literally "rolled in". www.gore.com/.../skyflex_aircraft_sealant_training_manual.p... -
David Williams (asker) Jun 10, 2010:
The surfaces that the sealant is applied to are parts of a C-frame for an aircraft door, in preparation for assembly/riveting in a frame riveting machines such as that described on page 52 here: http://www.ruag.com/de/Technology/Strukturbau/Downloads_e/Co...
Vera H. Jun 10, 2010:
Give us more context please... it depends on what you are doing - if the sealant is applied to a flat surface with a roller, or if something is applied and then rolled up. What is the topic of your text?
David Williams (asker) Jun 10, 2010:
Although, having said that "roll in" is quite common too.
