Article On The City Of Chartres
Contexte:
"...au 12e siècle...Chartres est alors séparée en deux parties par un dénivelé de trente mètres: la haute ville, avec le chateau et la cathédrale, et la basse ville avec les activités de la rivière: tanneries, **corroieries,** mégisseries, moulins..."
Something like "metal works?"
Merci Beaucoup,
Barbara

Certainly a place that works leather, not sure what the correct technical term is?

According to Webster's, the techncial term appears to be a 'currying plant':

I'd think, though, that historically one might refer to it as a 'currying works' (goes with 'tannery', but I don't imagine one could call it a 'curryery'!!!)

: Good old Webster: curry plant?? What about curry house? Sadly, not too many in France. Seriously, who's heard of a currier? "Leatherworks" is more accessible.

Thnaks, C, and I agree about accessibility; though we are talking here about technical terms, and I'm not quite sure what 'accessible' term Barbara is going to be able to use for 'mégisserie'!
