The expression refers to a easy fatigability manifested as an exercise intolerance. It is quite central and possibly with cardiac and hormonal mechanisms. It is not specifically arising from the legs nor blood sugar levels. A nice idiomatic expression, more metaphoric than physiologic....

Skip it, if your legs can handle it. It's just a French variation on "tiredness", or more like "sudden fatigue", which you already have.
Google "menopause + tiredness + hot flushes" and you'll get all sorts of things, like "palpitations", "muscular/skeletal pain", "anxiety", "loss of libido", "night sweats", "vertigo", "vaginal dryness", etc. but nothing like "jambes coupées".
They lady's right, the gals here have a lot to look forward to ...

You can have your "jambes coupées" by physical fatigue or emotional shock, the result being that you cannot stand or that you fall (when used most literally). It is sometimes also used to express great surprise (along the lines of "you could have knocked me over with a feather"):

: dizzy spells ? // On 2nd thoughts, perhaps not for "jambes coupées". A dizzy spell may result a fall, but this is not the same as your legs giving way.

Symptoms in the legs during the menopause include leg cramps, restless leg syndrome and narrowing of the blood vessels in(and therefore blood supply to) the legs. I would suggest the first is the most likely translation.

: Perhaps "legs giving way". True enough, apparently, numbness and so on can lead to this happeneing. Ties in much more closely with the image conjured up by the French original.
