French term

vie de la Collection

French to English Marketing General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters art
For an art collection, I think life of the collection or the collection's life could be too literal here, please see below thanks

Discussion

Lara Barnett Mar 12, 2015:
Vie / "Life" I agree. And best also not to stray too far from the literal if you don't have to. The concept of an art collection having a life may have a slightly different nuance in French, but it only adds charm to the text IMO. It does not sound like a corruption of English or Translatese or anything like that.
James Perry Mar 12, 2015:
Claude-andrew, your colloquial suggestion is fine, but it refers more specifically to "Faire connaître et partager les informations..." 2 lines later.
This "Devenir Ami... vie de la Collection" is a sub-header and the 2 lines below it are a description of what it entails.
I think it is important to not stray too far from the text's structure.
claude-andrew Mar 12, 2015:
Colloquial suggestion "... share the latest news on the Collection" (I think that's all it means)
Lara Barnett Mar 12, 2015:
Re James comment I agree. Having browsed the thesaurus and racked my brain, I think you may as wel stick with "life". It does not sound too odd, and does give depth the the idea.
James Perry Mar 12, 2015:
Personally, I think "... means supporting and actively participating in the life of the collection" is OK, here. It sounds fine in English to me, and it conveys that the collection has a soul, or something like that. Good luck!
Luna Jungblut Mar 12, 2015:
Actually, that works for the first occurrence. For the second one at the end, you could just use 'collection' on its own... ?
Luna Jungblut Mar 12, 2015:
Maybe Hello :) A couple of ideas...
'Participate in the collection's activities' or 'the collection's community'.
EirTranslations (asker) Mar 12, 2015:
perhaps in all aspects of the collection?
