Guinean birth certificate
This birth-certificate extract from Guinea lists the usual things like parents' information and child's date and place of birth. Then it says:
Rang de Naissance: 3ème GESTE
I was assuming that the client was the third child born in Conakry that day, but what is the "GESTE" part?

third-born
I'm not familiar with the situation in Guinea, but I have come across a few other cases where 'geste' is recorded to identify the order of births within a family.
The usual English expression would be first-born, second-born, third-born, etc.
The purpose of this information depends on the country (it can affect inheritances, etc.); some countries include still-births in the sequence, others do not.

: Spearkering's link above confirms yr translation! "La gestité est définie comme le nombre de grossesse d'une femme. Une primigeste est une femme enceinte pour la première fois, une 2ème geste pour une seconde fois, une 3ème geste pour la 3ème fois, etc."

Good Lord Irene! Thank you. I've never done it myself, of course and changed from Biology to Latin at 13. So ignorance reigns supreme. Yes I follow yr note, but it actually says "rang de naissance"

good, here is the proof:
On compte également une importante proportion de "3ème geste et plus" ainsi que des mères qui ont déjà accouché deux fois ou plus d'un enfant viable.

: Your own link clearly states that "3ème geste" refers to the woman's third pregnancy, not the third trimester of her pregnancy!

: The duration of the pregnancy is totally irrelevant in the context of a birth certificate. And I believe you are mis-interpreting your own 'proof' - "3ème geste et plus" refers to women who have delivered 3 or more (live) children.
