"Dressé le 15 juillet 1997, à 10 heures 55 minutes, sur la declaration du père qui, lecture faite et invite à lire l'acte, a signé avec nous XXXXX, fonctionnaire municipal délégué dans les fonctions d'état civil par le Maire du quatorzième arrondissement de Paris. CP."

Does anyone know what *CP* means at the end of this paragraph on a birth certificate?

I have found certificat pratique, certificat provisoire, and circonscription de Paris, but I don't know if any of them apply here.

Thanks

It is at the end of the document. Sorry about not being clear about that.

@ Asker You say "at the end of a paragraph" — which seems to suggest there might be other paragraphs following? Please could you clarify whether in fact this is the case, or whether this actually appears at the very end of the document, as certain answerers seem to be interpreting it?

Initials of a person

I have often come across initials at the end of birth certificates. They appear to be totally random. I assume they refer to the initials of a person, possibly the person in the Registry Office who has checked the entry of their colleague.

French term (edited): CP = code postal

post code

Well, it seems odd, but that's what you'd usualyl expect to appear in this position!

Is this a hand-written or printed document? If it was word-processed, it is perfectly possible that 'CP' was the placeholder used in the document template, and the writer simply omitted to fill it in.

In that case, I wouldn't be at all surprised; it's the sort of slip that happens all the time with template dcouments ;-)
Note from asker:
It is a printed document and I typed it exactly the way it appears. You could very well be right. Thanks

agree writeaway : makes sense in the context. code postal without numbers doesn't. it's a birth certificate. "template" mistakes are unlikely.
